Back up your data before upgrading. No existing data is deleted. The necessary files are copied to the existing NetWare partitions. Bindery and mounted volumes are upgraded. =Exit Help[ Create a New DOS Partition Help 1 of 2 Warning: Creating a new DOS partition destroys ALL existing data on this hard disk! If you have an existing DOS partition on your hard disk that is 5 MB or larger, you can use it as the DOS partition. In this case, select "Retain current partitions." =Exit Help =Next Create a New DOS Partition Help 2 of 2 To save existing data on your hard disk: 1. Select "Exit to DOS." 2. Save your data. 3. Restart INSTALL. =Exit Help Change the Source Path Help 1 of 1 The source path indicates where the NetWare server boot files are copied from. Accept the default, or type in the path leading to the server boot files. For example, if your NetWare diskettes are in drive A, type A:. =Exit Help Copy Files to the DOS Partition Help 1 of 2 To copy server boot files to the DOS partition, you must supply a source and a destination path. Source path The drive:\(directory) where the NetWare server boot files are copied from. The default is the drive you booted from. Example: A:\ =Exit Help =Next Copy Files to the DOS Partition Help 2 of 2 Destination path The drive:\(directory) where the boot files are copied to. INSTALL creates a default destination directory. You can specify your own destination path after pressing . =Exit Help Format Your Hard Disk Help 1 of 1 For DOS to recognize the newly created disk partition, that partition must be formatted with DOS's FORMAT.COM. Insert a DOS diskette containing the FORMAT.COM file corresponding to the DOS version you are using and press . =Exit Help Select a Disk Partitioning Method Help 1 of 1 Automatically Prompts INSTALL to automatically define and create a 5MB DOS partition on the first internal hard disk. SERVER.EXE loads from this disk partition whenever the server is booted. Manually Lets you retain existing disk partitions or specify the size of a new DOS partition. =Exit Help Should AUTOEXEC.BAT load SERVER.EXE? Help 1 of 1 When your computer boots, SERVER.EXE (the NetWare operating system) will not load automatically. You have to type "SERVER" and press to load it. INSTALL adds a command to a batch file (AUTOEXEC.BAT) that loads SERVER.EXE whenever the computer is booted. =Exit Help Change the Source Path Help 1 of 1 A file needed for NetWare installation cannot be found in the current source path. Press and type the source path to the drive:\directory containing NetWare server boot files. For example, if the NetWare installation diskettes are in drive A, type A:. =Exit Help Name the New Server Help 1 of 1 The NetWare server name can contain: From 2 to 47 characters. Any alphanumeric characters (letters A-Z, numbers 0-9), hyphens, and underscores. It CANNOT use a period as first character. This name is saved in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file. =Exit Help Assign an IPX Internal Network Number Help 1 of 1 The IPX internal network number must not conflict with the network address. It must be Unique within all interconnected networks Hexadecimal (using numbers 0-9, letters A-F) From 1 to 8 digits long Examples: 1999BEAD; ABE2222; 1234; DEAF1 Note: You cannot use 0 or FFFFFFFF. =Exit Help What Happens Next? Help 1 of 1 1. The NetWare operating system (SERVER.EXE) is loaded. 2. The NetWare installation utility (INSTALL.NLM) is loaded. The installation process continues with INSTALL.NLM. =Exit Help Select a Partition Option Help 1 of 2 Retain current disk partitions Select this if the existing DOS partition is at least 5 MB. Create a new DOS partition If you select this, All existing disk partitions (including any existing NetWare disk partitions) are deleted; =Exit Help =Next Select a Partition Option Help 2 of 2 A DOS partition whose size you specify is created; The remaining disk space is reserved for a NetWare disk partition. Create a New Destination Directory Help 1 of 1 The specified directory does not exist. Do you want INSTALL to create this directory for you? INSTALL creates the directory in the path you specify. All files necessary for NetWare installation are copied into this directory. You are returned to the previous screen. =Exit Help Change the Destination Path Help 1 of 1 The destination path indicates where the NetWare server boot files are stored. The server boots from this directory. Accept the default or type the path to another directory. =Exit Help Format Your Hard Disk Help 1 of 1 Before the DOS format utility (FORMAT.COM) can be invoked, the file COMMAND.COM as specified in your DOS environment variable "COMSPEC" must be available. Insert a DOS diskette containing COMMAND.COM. =Exit help Format Help Help 1 of 2 INSTALL could not load the DOS format utility required to format the new DOS partition. Before proceeding, you must format the new disk partition manually. Refer to "FORMAT" in your DOS reference manual for instructions. =Exit Help =Next Format Help Help 2 of 2 After formatting the new disk partition, 1. Restart INSTALL. 2. Select "Manual disk partitioning." 3. Select "Retain current disk partitions." 4. Continue with the installation. Make the Right Installation Choice Help 1 of 1 NetWare disk partitions already exist on the local hard disk. Installing a new v3.12 server deletes any existing NetWare volumes, including all data on those volumes. To prevent data from being deleted, choose "Upgrade NetWare v3.1x." =Exit Help Can't Find Existing STARTUP.NCF Help 1 of 1 INSTALL cannot find your STARTUP.NCF file. If you have a STARTUP.NCF, specify the path leading to this file. Its contents are then copied into the newly created STARTUP.NCF. If you have no existing STARTUP.NCF file, or don't want the contents of the existing one copied into the new one created by NetWare v3.12, press . =Exit Help Specify DOS Partition Size Help 1 of 1 To install the NetWare operating system, INSTALL requires a DOS partition of at least 5 MB. The NetWare system volume (SYS) requires at least 25 MB of disk space. If you have only one hard disk, make sure it has at least 30 MB of storage (5 MB for the DOS partition, 25 MB for the NetWare partition with volume SYS on it). =Exit Help[' Active Partition not a DOS Partition Help 1 of 2 By default, the installation program copies server boot files to the active partition on the first hard disk (device 0). However, the active partition on this computer is not a DOS partition. Normally, this error prevents you from proceeding. However, some boot manager utilities allow you to boot your machine from one partition, and then select another partition to be used for that session. In this case, the DOS partition would not be marked as active. =Exit Help =Next Active Partition not a DOS Partition Help 2 of 2 This installation program cannot detect a case such as this one, but it allows you to specify the destination path where server boot files are copied. If you understand this error condition, and if you are sure that it won't cause problems on your system, continue with the installation. =Exit No DOS Partition on Hard Disk Help 1 of 2 By default, the installation program copies the server boot files to the active partition on the first hard disk (device 0). However, the first hard disk on this computer does not contain a DOS partition. Normally, this error prevents you from proceeding. However, you may have decided to copy boot files to a disk other than the first hard disk (e.g. D:). The installation program cannot detect this case. =Exit =Next No DOS Partition on Hard Disk Help 2 of 2 You can later specify the destination path where boot files will be copied. If you understand this error condition, and if it won't cause problems on your system, continue with the installation. =Exit8/ No Active Partition on Hard disk Help 1 of 2 By default, the installation program copies the server boot files to the active partition on the first hard disk (device 0). However, there is no active partition on the first hard drive of this computer. Normally, this error prevents you from proceeding. However, you may have decided to copy boot files to a disk other than the first hard disk (e.g. D:). The installation program cannot detect this case. =Exit Help =Next No Active Partition on Hard disk Help 2 of 2 You can later specify the destination path where boot files will be copied. If you understand this error condition, and if it won't cause problems on your system, you can continue with the installation. =Exit Active Partition is Too Small Help 1 of 2 By default, the installation program copies the server boot files to the active partition on the first hard disk (device 0). That partition is not large enough to hold the NetWare server boot files. Normally, this error prevents you from proceeding. However, you can copy boot files to a disk other than the first hard disk, or you may have a utility that allows you to use =Exit Help =Next Active Partition is Too Small Help 2 of 2 a partition other than the active partition. These cases cannot be detected by the installation program. You can later specify the destination path where files will be copied. If you understand this error condition, and if you are sure that it won't cause problems on your system, continue with the installation. =Exit Use your existing STARTUP.NCF? Help 1 of 1 When SERVER.EXE loads as part of installation, your STARTUP.NCF file won't be executed. This avoids any incompatibilities between your previous STARTUP.NCF file version of the NetWare operating system being installed. The existing STARTUP.NCF file will be invoked as SERVER.EXE loads. This allows any drivers in your "old" STARTUP.NCF file to be loaded when the server comes up. =Exit Help Can't Find Existing SERVER.EXE Help 1 of 1 INSTALL cannot find your SERVER.EXE file. If you are upgrading this server, a previous NetWare version should be installed on this computer. Specify the directory containing the previous version of SERVER.EXE. If your previous SERVER.EXE file is on a removable drive or no longer exists, specify a null path here. =Exit Help VeRsIoN=3.12 CoPyRiGhT=(c) Copyright 1993, Novell Inc. All Rights Reserved. Drivers Not Copied Help 1 of 1 Drivers were found in the existing startup directory, for which there were no replacement drivers in the installation files. Newer versions of these drivers will have to be copied into the startup directory manually. This message is an advisory message only. The installation will continue. =Exit Help Locale Help Help 1 of 1 Choose the country code, code page, and keyboard that you desire. The ones displayed match your DOS configuration. Country Code 3-digit country code (see COUNTRY.SYS entry in DOS manual). Code Page Country-dependent 3-digit code. Keyboard Mapping Alternate keyboard mappings. (This is only shown if alternate mappings are available). =Exit Help Available Countries Help 1 of 1 The list shows the available countries. Choose the country you desire from the list. For more information see the COUNTRY.SYS entry in your DOS manual. Use the Up, Down, Page Up, and Page Down keys. When you are positioned on the desired element press . =Exit Help Available Code Page Help 1 of 1 The list shows the available code pages. Choose the code page from the list. For more information see the CODEPAGE entry in your DOS manual. Use the Up, Down, Page Up, and Page Down keys. When you are positioned on the desired element press . =Exit Help Available Keyboards Help 1 of 1 The list shows the available keyboard mappings. If you have a keyboard of a type other than standard US English, you should choose the appropriate country in order to have the characters mapped correctly. If you choose "none" no mapping will be done, and the keyboard will be treated as if it is a US English keyboard. Use the Up, Down, Page Up, and Page Down keys. When you are positioned on the desired element press . =Exit Help Insert Diskette Help 1 of 1 The installation utility is copying files from the installation diskettes to your local DOS partition. Some of the files required are on a floppy diskette with the indicated label printed on the the diskette. Insert the correct floppy diskette into the disk drive. =Exit Help Special Startup Set Commands Help 1 of 2 The most common set command that would need be included in STARTUP.NCF are: Auto Register Memory Above 16 Megabytes = ON/OFF This command has to do mostly with disk drivers that require memory below 16 megabytes. =Exit Help Editing Help Special Startup Set Commands Help 2 of 2 You can use the following keys to edit the text: Delete one character Move to the beginning of the line Move to the end of the line Move to the top of the window Move to the bottom of the window Move to the first character in the window Move to the last character in the window Move up, down, left, or right Delete one character or blocked text Block on / Block off Insert paste buffer contents* Next line *The paste buffer contains the last deleted block. =Exit Help Previous Screen Special Set Commands Help 1 of 1 There are only limited reasons why you would want to specify special startup commands. The most common of these reasons is the case in which you have a driver that requires memory below 16 megabytes, and your machine has more than 16 megabytes of memory. If you know you have such a need, choose "Yes", otherwise choose "No". =Exit Help Expanded Memory Help 1 of 1 A NetWare server cannot be loaded if an Expanded (EMS) Memory Manager (such as EMM386.SYS) is loaded. These drivers conflict with NetWare in their use of memory. In order to install and run NetWare on this machine, you must remove the appropriate driver from your CONFIG.SYS file and reboot the machine. =Exit Help Not Enough Memory Help 1 of 1 After loading the installation program there is not enough free memory to load the server. There must be enough memory to load this program, and to have sufficient remaining free memory to load the server as well. You must exit this program and remove any unnecessary TSRs or other programs that are using memory. When you have freed up enough memory, you may restart the installation. =Exit Help Filename Format Help 1 of 1 Under most circumstances you will want to choose DOS filename format. This will give you compatibility with DOS, as well as with future releases of NetWare. You should not choose NetWare format filenames unless you have a specific need for non-DOS compatible filenames. If you are upgrading an existing server, and there are files on your server which contain any of the characters that NetWare allows as lower case, and if you choose DOS filename format, VREPAIR will change the lower case characters to upper case when the volume is mounted. The DOS filename format is used by the NetWare DOS requester (VLM) no matter what you choose here. The NetWare shells (e.g. NETX) will work with either DOS format or NetWare format filenames. =Exit Help Display Information File Help 1 of 1 The information (readme) file contains last minute information about the product. You should examine this file before you begin the installation. =Exit Help
