20Jul95 New Features Provided by NetWare Connect 2.0 ============================================ In addition to the features provided by NetWare Connect 1.0, NetWare Connect 2.0 provides the following new features. For Macintosh Users 1. Macintosh workstations, on a NetWare LAN, can use Mac2NCS to dial out through the server. All that is required is a standard Macintosh communications application. 2. ARAS 2.0 (Appletalk Remote Access Service) with its enhanced dialing options is now supported in addition to ARAS 1.0. For NetWare 4.10 Sites NetWare Connect 2 can store communications information in the NDS tree. Bindery Emulation in a NW 4.1 server does not need to be implemented. (A utility is provided which allows a NetWare Connect installer without full Admin rights to expand the NDS schema.) NOTE: NetWare 3.12 still also supported. TCP/IP 1. NetWare Connect 2 supports three IP addressing solutions; - fixed client - dynamic NetWare Connect - BootP server The BootP addressing can be accomplished with a provided NLM which assigns addresses to NetWare Connect users in a BootP like manner. 2. NetWare Connect 2 provides both Novell's IPX and IP protocol stack for remote nodes. Additional TCP/IP tools can be obtained by purchasing LAN WorkPlace for DOS. General 1. Support of up to 128 ports, double the 64 port limit of NetWare Connect 1.0. 2. New Audit Trail information including connection speed, a duration entry for each connection, and a summary of the data transmitted during a session. Audit information can be exported to a spreadsheet. 3. New dialers for both Windows and DOS users. These feature a telephone number address book and call scripting. 4. Default use of the hardware data compression feature of modems. 5. Dialout Windows users can use (without a NASI modification) standard Windows communication applications with NetWare Connect's dynamic modem pool, including applications using Windows 95. 6. Provides "ConnectView", a feature laden Windows based, NetWare Connect management tool, providing trend analysis, and cost accounting functions. ConnectView can be use alone or with Novell's ManageWise. (RConsole can also still be used.) 7. NetWare Connect remote node client dialers have been redesigned to use PPP as their transport mechanism. (Still supports NetWare Connect 1.0 RNS transport protocol for backward compatibility.) 8. NetWare Connect now offers four remote access security models for administrators to select from. Additional security including the PAP and CHAP protocols and third-party products. 9. During installation, most modems and multi-port cards can be automatically detected, simplifying configuration. However; - WIN32 communication applications are not supported, such as the Terminal program supplied with Windows 95. - Windows applications that attempt to install display or other drivers will probably work not work correctly. These are normally remote control applications. - Windows applications that are only marginally Windows compliant, will probably not work correctly. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
