If you highlight a field and press and then press , you see help for that field only. If you press without pressing first, you see general help for that screen. Insert Disk Driver Help 1 of 1 This diskette should be available from your hard disk controller manufacturer (if it has been approved by Novell for NetWare use). For a list of approved hard disk controllers, contact your Novell Authorized Reseller. File Server Mode Help 1 of 4 Select which operating mode your file server will use. Select "Dedicated" if you will use the machine as a file server only. Select "Nondedicated" if you will use the machine as both a file server and workstation. Default: Dedicated The following screens explain each mode. File Server Mode - Dedicated Help 2 of 4 A dedicated server performs better and is more reliable than a nondedicated server. It cannot function as a workstation. Use a dedicated server to run VAPs (such as the Macintosh VAP) in the server. Memory requirements: At least 2.5MB of RAM (more if you attach disks larger than 70MB). To boot a dedicated file server, boot from a cold boot loader or run the NetWare operating system file (NET$OS.EXE) from DOS. File Server Mode - Nondedicated Help 3 of 4 A nondedicated server can run concurrently as a workstation. IMPORTANT: If an application causes the machine to crash while in workstation mode, it brings down the whole network. Memory requirements: At least 2.5MB of RAM (more if you attach disks larger than 70MB). To boot a nondedicated server, run the NetWare operating system file (NET$OS.EXE) from DOS. File Server Mode - Nondedicated Help 4 of 4 Nondedicated servers don't perform as well as dedicated servers (the processor is shared between server and workstation functions). Nondedicated servers leave less memory for programs when in workstation mode. VAPs don't function as well as in a dedicated server. Nondedicated servers require more memory than dedicated servers for the same configuration. Server Name Help 1 of 1 The server name must be 2 to 45 characters long. Valid characters: all alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9) and underlines (_). The first character cannot be a period. Use an underline between words. Servers on a network must have unique names. To enter a new name, highlight this field; then enter the name. Network Board Driver Help 1 of 1 Highlight the driver you want, then press . If the driver you want isn't listed, press . You will be instructed on how to add a driver from a diskette. If the driver you want still isn't listed, contact the maker of your network board for the correct driver file. If your network includes Macintosh machines, you may need to specify a driver with AppleTalk (listed as "w/AT1" or "w/AT2"). To return to the Operating System Generation screen, press N for No. Insert LAN Driver Help 1 of 1 This diskette should be available from your network board driver manufacturer (if it has been approved by Novell for NetWare use). For a list of approved network board drivers, contact your Novell Authorized Reseller. Communication Buffers Help 1 of 1 Communication buffers temporarily hold information arriving from network stations. Each buffer uses about 1/2KB of server memory. To free memory, decrease the number of buffers. To change the number, highlight this field, then enter the new number. Default: 150 (the default should be enough) Maximum: 1000 Minimum: 40 Installing on this Machine Help 1 of 2 Press Y for Yes if you are running INSTALL on the machine that will be your file server. Press N for No if you are running INSTALL on a machine other than the one that will be your file server. If you choose No, the operating system will be generated and linked; however, you must complete the remainder of INSTALL at the server. Installing on this Machine Help 2 of 2 To finish the installation on the file server, complete the rest of this screen, exit, then enter the second half of INSTALL (type INSTALL -L at the DOS prompt of the server). See the Advanced Features section in the Installation manual for an explanation of INSTALL options. Nondedicated Network Address Help 1 of 1 You must assign the server a nondedicated network address if your server operates in nondedicated mode. This identifies the machine when it is in workstation mode. The address is a unique hexadecimal number used to identify the nondedicated mode address. Each address must be unique; you can't have duplicate addresses. Operating System Generation Help 1 of 9 The summary screen shows default settings for your operating system configuration. To change any information, highlight a field, then press . You can then enter the correct information. Press when all information on the screen is correct. The fields are explained on the following screens. Operating System Generation Help 2 of 9 Operating system mode Shows which mode your operating system will use (dedicated or nondedicated). If you use nondedicated, you must assign a nondedicated network address. Nondedicated network address Unique network address assigned to the nondedicated server (appears only if you select nondedicated mode). Operating System Generation Help 3 of 9 Number of communication buffers Number of buffers reserved to temporarily hold information arriving from network stations. Each buffer uses about 1/2KB of server memory. Operating System Generation Help 4 of 9 Will this machine be the server? Shows whether you will complete the installation of NetWare v2.2 on this machine or on another machine. If you select No, the operating system will be generated and linked and no data will be lost. However, you must complete the remainder of INSTALL at the file server.0" Operating System Generation Help 5 of 9 Include core printing services? Shows whether you want to use core printing services. You can attach up to 5 printers to the file server. If the driver shown doesn't match your board type, press to remove the current settings. Then press to see a list of available drivers. Configuration option Shows the configuration option that corresponds to your network board settings. Operating System Generation Help 7 of 9 Network board (continued) Network address Shows the hexadecimal number (0-9, A-F) used to identify the network cabling scheme the network board is attached to. Channel Identifies the channel the hard disk controller driver is using.O' Operating System Generation Help 8 of 9 Channel (continued) Disk driver Shows the driver that corresponds to your hard disk controller. To change the driver, press . This removes all settings for this channel. To see the list of available drivers, press . Select the new driver from the list. Operating System Generation Help 9 of 9 Channel (continued) Configuration option Shows the configuration option that corresponds to your hard disk controller. This number is often set by the manufacturer. Driver Configuration Option Help 1 of 1 This lists available configuration options for your network board driver. Highlight the option that corresponds to your board settings, then press . If the option isn't listed or if it conflicts with other settings (indicated by an asterisk by the option number), you may need to change the settings on the board to match an available option. Network Address Help 1 of 1 Change the network address if it is incorrect. The network address is a hexadecimal number (up to 8 digits long) used by the network board driver to identify the cabling system attached to the driver's network board. Each network board attached to the same cabling system must be set to a unique node (board) address. (Many are set by the manufacturer.) Introduction Help 1 of 7 Use the INSTALL utility to complete any of the following tasks: Install NetWare on your file server; Maintain your existing NetWare v2.2 system; Upgrade an existing NetWare v2.x network to NetWare v2.2. The options are explained on the following screens. Introduction Help 2 of 7 Basic installation Use this option if you are installing NetWare v2.2 for the first time and you will configure the following: 1 file server 1 internal hard disk in the server No external hard disks 1 network board in the server DOS workstations only No routers 1 parallel printerX1 Introduction Help 3 of 7 Basic installation (continued) This option will overwrite data on your hard disks. INSTALL will relink and reconfigure your system to reflect the changes. Introduction Help 7 of 7 Upgrade from NetWare v2.x Use this option to upgrade your server from previous versions of NetWare v2.0a through v2.15c. Do not use this option on NetWare v2.0 or v3.x servers. This option will not destroy data on the server's hard disk. Disk Driver Help 1 of 1 To select a disk driver for this channel, highlight the driver, then press . If the disk driver you want isn't listed, press . You will be instructed on how to add a driver from a diskette. If the disk driver you want is still not listed, contact the manufacturer of your disk controller or HBA for the correct driver file.
