Import a Token from a Non-Default Directory

Before you can log on to a VPN client or other protected resource, you must import a software-based security token. Use the instructions in this topic to import a token from a file manually if the token file resides in a directory other than Desktop or My Documents on Windows, or other than Desktop or Documents on Mac OS X. Token files have the extension .sdtid (for example, "Token1.sdtid").

To complete the import, you may be prompted to enter a token file password that your administrator supplied. Be sure to note the file password before you begin.

To import a token from a file manually:

  1. Start the SecurID desktop application.

  2. Click the Options down arrow, and select Import Token.

Note: If you have never imported a token, the Import Token screen is displayed automatically when you start the application.

  1. Click Import from File.

  2. Do one of the following:

  1. Click OK.

  2. If prompted, enter the token file password, and click OK.

  3. If prompted to select the device on which you want to store the token, click the name of the device as your administrator directs, for example, "Local hard drive (RSA)."

  4. Click OK.
    If prompted to rename your token, you can rename the token, retain the existing name, or change the name later.

  5. Do one of the following:

  1. To change the token name, enter a name of 1 to 24 alphanumeric characters (for example, "My VPN Token"). Click OK.
