CHAMDU

ííííChamdu is located at 93o6í»to 99o2í»E and 28o5í»to 32o6í»N, in the east part of Tibet, upper reaches of the Lantsang River, being the east gate to Tibet. The location is just at the meeting of Nang chu, Dra chu, Se chu and the Lantsang River, so its meaning of Chamdu is í░the meeting of riversí▒. It is contiguous to Sichuan and Yunnan in the east, Nyinchi to the southwest, Ngachu to the northwest and Qinghai to the north. Covering the area of eleven thousand square km occupying the 8.9% to the total area of Tibet and with the population of fifity-five hundred thousand of Tibetan, Han, Hui, Zhuang, Naxi, Loba, Mengba, Bai etc. Among them, Tibetans are of 98.26%. The main industry is agriculture and animal husbandry.

The north west part is higher than the south east part, and the altitude is over 3,500 meters averagely. The highest peak in this region reaches 6,956 meters in Bianba county and the lowest part is 3,100 meters. Many of the mountains are over snow line covering with snow yearly.

The temperature here mainly belongs to the warm and semi-dried and zone with season winds. It is warm and wet in summers and cold and dry in winter and has the series differences between day and night. The sunshine time reaches 2,100-2,700 hours a year, and frost-free lasts 46-162days a year. The rainfall is about 477.7mm and mostly in the months of May-September. The natural disasters often seen are arid, frost, snow, flood, and hailstone.

The different climate characteristic of Chamdu is caused by the influence of the three rivers, it contains the complicated landforms, different terrain, climate and places that is good for growing crops. You can see the vast expanse of pastureland, a boundless expanse of farms, a boundless stretch of the forest, varies resources of mineral, water energy, sunshine energy etc, varies kinds of plants and animals, the natural scenic of subtropical zone. The bright and colourful picture appears to you here that mountains, rivers, forest, birds, beasts, fishes, flowers and grasses are all existing here.
