First you have to create initial copy of the Registry. To do this, select the new file through the File\New menu item and then scan the current registry state to this file by selecting the Registry\Scan Registry menu item or by clicking the Scan Registry button in the toolbar.
Depending on the Registry size and on your computer resources, this procedure can take from a few seconds to about a minute (on 486). The procedure duration (in seconds) is displayed on the status bar. Name of the root directory of this Registry copy is the scan date.
Scanning can be also done when the file with saved Registry copies is
open.
Each newly scanned copy is saved to file automatically. No more than 2
copies are stored in RAM simultaneously. Copies stored in RAM are called active,
their Keys are yellow, while copies showing inactive Keys are white. For
inactive Key, only comment is accessible.
For viewing, comparing, searching, and initial scanning to be possible, the Key should be active. To switch to active mode, you simply have to open relevant Key of the tree, the only process that will take some time is loading data from file to memory. If there are two active Key in the tree at that moment, the dialogue window for choosing a Key to be closed (switched to inactive mode) before opening a new one appears.
You can add a comment up to 2000 characters to every scanning copy by selecting the Comment item in context menu of main node.
