IDENTIFICACIÓN:Limícola de espalda parda con una banda ancha en el pecho y el pico relativamente grueso. Tamaño: 16.5-20 cm.; peso: 55-70 g.

VOZ: Un piído agudo. Audio (M. Oberle).

HÁBITAT: Lodazales y salitrales.

HÁBITOS: El Chorlito de Wilson se alimenta preferiblemente de crustáceos, como por ejemplo los cangrejos violinistas, pero también come gusanos, caracoles e insectos. Forrajea de una forma relativamente lenta y lo hace a solas o en compañía de otros limícolas. El macho escarba varios nidos en la arena y trata de atraer a la hembra con un despliegue nupcial donde abre las alas, las mantiene bajas, y baila alrededor de ésta. Ambos sexos incuban los tres huevos durante 24-25 días, con la hembra incubando mayormente de día. Poco después de salir del cascarón los polluelos abandonan el nido y son capaces de volar a las tres o cuatro semanas.

ESTADO Y CONSERVACIÓN: Esta ave es un residente permanente común. El nido en el suelo es fácilmente perturbado por la gente y los depredadores.

DISTRIBUCIÓN: Anida desde las costas meridionales de América del Norte hasta Colombia y el norte del Brasil. Esta especie se puede encontrar con frecuencia en la Reserva Natural Caño Tiburones y los salitrales de Cabo Rojo.
