Limícola de plumaje anteado con un anillo blanco alrededor del ojo. Tamaño: 18-20 cm.; peso: machos 53-117 g., hembras 46-81 g. Anida en la tundra cerca del océano Glacial Ártico en Alaska, Canadá y el este de Siberia. Durante el cortejo los machos se reúnen en "leks" o "arenas"---lugares fijos donde los machos despliegan el interior blanco de las alas y se pavonean tratando de atraer a las hembras. Usualmente todas las hembras son atraídas por un solo macho. Este limícola inverna en el norte de la Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay y el sur del Brasil.
