Registering JBuilder 8

When you run JBuilder 8 for the first time, you will need the serial number and key provided with your copy of the product. You can use JBuilder 8 for 30 days after installation without registering. After 30 days, JBuilder 8 will not run until it has been registered. (Note: There is no grace period for upgrade and trial versions. These versions must be registered before they can be used.)

Starting JBuilder 8

1. Start JBuilder 8 by doing one of the following:
   
   

   Windows:	Choose Start|Programs|JBuilder 8 Enterprise|JBuilder 8 Enterprise. From the File Manager: In the bin folder under the folder you installed JBuilder 8 to, double-click on jbuilder.exe. From the command line: Enter <drive:>\jbuilder8\bin\jbuilder.
   Linux:	From the command line: Enter ./jbuilder8/bin/jbuilder from the directory where you installed JBuider 8.
   Solaris:	From the File Manager: In the bin folder under the folder you installed JBuilder 8 to, double-click on jbuilder. From the command line: Enter ./jbuilder8/bin/jbuilder from the directory where you installed JBuider 8.

   Note: If you did not install JBuilder 8 to the default directory, change jbuilder8 to the path and directory where you installed JBuilder 8.

2. When the Borland Registration Wizard appears, select one of the following options, then click Next:
   
   
   • Have Serial Number
     Select this option if you have the serial number and key from your JBuilder 8 product CD. See "Registering with a Serial Number" for specific instructions.
     
     
   • Have Activation File
     Select this option if you are completing the registration process and have an activation that you received via e-mail or is available to you from another location. See "Registering with an Activation Key" for specific instructions.

Registering with a Serial Number

If you have the serial number and key from your JBuilder 8 product CD.

1. Enter your serial number and key, then click Next.
   
   
2. Review and accept the licensing terms, then click Next.
   
   
3. Select one of the following options:
   
   
   • Direct
     Select this option if you have an Internet connection and want to complete the registration process quickly.
   • Email
     Select this option if you have an email account and want to receive your activation file via email.
   • Web page
     Select this option if you want to complete the registration process using a web page and receive your activation file via email.
   • Telephone
     Select this option if you want to complete the registration process by telephone and receive your activation file by email or postal mail.
   
   
4. Click Next.

Completing direct registration

If you are using direct registration:

1. Enter your Borland customer account information.
2. If you use a proxy to connect to the Internet, then enter your proxy settings when the Proxy Settings dialog appears. Otherwise, click Next. (If you don't know whether you use a proxy or your proxy settings, check with your System Administrator.)
3. When the Information Summary dialog appears, verify that the information to be registered is correct. If the information is correct, click Next. Otherwise, click Back and correct the information before proceeding.
4. Your registration information will now be transmitted and processed. When the message "Registration completed successfully!" is highlighted, click Next.
5. Click Finish. The registration process is completed.

Completing registration by email

If you are completing your product registration by email:

1. Enter your Borland customer account information.
2. When the Information Summary dialog appears, verify that the information to be registered is correct. If the information is correct, click Next. Otherwise, click Back and correct the information before proceeding.
3. When the Email Registration dialog appears, click Clipboard Copy to copy the information provided to your system clipboard. You will need to paste this into the body of an email message.
4. Send an email to reg@borland.com and paste the information from your system clipboard into the body of the message.
5. Click Next.
6. Click Finish.
7. When you receive the email containing your activation file, you will need to repeat the registration process, this time choosing the Have Activation File option.

Completing registration using the web

If you are completing your product registration using the web page:

1. Click Next.
2. Record the Registration Key provided. You will need this to complete your registration.
3. Click Finish.
4. Using your web browser, go to http://reg.borland.com to complete the registration process.
5. Click Finish.
6. When you receive the email containing your activation file, you will need to repeat the registration process, this time choosing the Have Activation File option.

Completing registration by telephone

If you are completing your product registration by telephone:

1. Enter your Borland customer account information.
2. Select your location from the Telephone Number list.
3. Call the Customer Service number for your location.
4. Keep the Phone Registration displayed. You will need the information it contains to complete the registration process.
5. Click Finish.
6. When you receive your activation file, you will need to repeat the registration process, this time choosing the Have Activation File option.

Using or creating a Borland Community or Software Registration account

Select one of the following options:

• I have an account
  Select this option if you have a Borland Community or Software Registration account from a previous Borland product registration.
  1. Click Next.
  2. Enter either your Borland Community Member or Software Registration Account login name, or your e-mail address.
  3. Enter your Borland Community Member or Software Registration Account password.
  4. Click Next.

• I don't have an account
  Select this option if you do not have a Borland Community or Software Registration account from a previous Borland product registration.
  1. Click Next.
  2. When the User Information dialog appears, enter the following information:
     • Your First Name
     • Your Last or Family Name
     • The name of your company or organization (optional)
     • You can click Privacy Policy to view the Borland privacy statement.
  3. Click Next.
  4. When the New Account Information dialog appears, enter the following information:
     • A login name for your Software Registration Account.
     • Your e-mail address.
     • A password for your Software Registration Account. (Note: The password must be at least 4 characters in length and must not contain any spaces.)
     • Verify the password for your Software Registration Account by entering it again.
     • You can click Privacy Policy to view the Borland privacy statement.
  5. Click Next.
  6. When the Additional Information dialog appear, complete the required fields:
     • Country
     • State/Province (if your selected Country was United States or Canada)
     • Zip Code
  7. Click Next.
  8. When Contact Preferences dialog appears, select your preferred contact methods.
  9. Click Next.

Registering with an Activation File

To register using an activation file:

1. Enter the path and filename of your activation file, or click the ellipsis (...) button to browse to the location of the file.
2. Click Next.
3. Click Finish. The registration process is completed.
