- A note of caution for defragmentation:
- Can I resize my cache while I am browsing the Internet?
Yes, you may increase the size of your cache at any time. You may also decrease the size of your cache, but you risk losing cached pages. If your cache is already larger than the new maximum size, Webcelerator can spend from several minutes to half an hour resizing your cache. You may continue browsing during this time, but Webcelerator's performance may be reduced.

- What is the 'Webcelerator Tray Icon'?
A tray icon is a small picture that represent a currently running program. It is displayed in one corner of your Windows screen, called the Status Notification Area. Time of day is also located in the Status Notification Area. The Webcelerator tray icon is a blue monitor indications light that changes colors just like the monitor windows indicator lights when Webcelerator is busy verifying a page. When you right-click our tray icon you will discover a whole panel of short-cut options.

- I am not seeing any speed improvement. What is wrong?
If you are accessing the Internet through a Local Area Network instead of through your own modem, please make sure that the corresponding settings are selected on the Network and Optimizer tabs in Webcelerator Settings:
- In the Network tab, make sure "Network Settings: LAN" is checked.
- In the Optimizer tab, make sure "LAN" is checked.
If you connect to the Internet with a modem, please make sure that the corresponding settings are selected on the Network and Optimizer tabs in Webcelerator Settings:
- In the Network tab, make sure "Network Settings: Modem" is checked.
- In the Optimizer tab, make sure "Modem" is checked.
All users can improve performance by checking "Show and Verify" and "Aggressive Mode" on the Network tab of Webcelerator Settings.
Another possible solution is to try the Use Proxy Mode option by right clicking on the Webcelerator tray icon or monitor window and selecting Use Proxy Mode.

- Can I lock out certain sites so that they are never displayed?
Yes. The Exclude settings tab in Webcelerator allows you to specify sites which are never to be displayed and more. See Exclude Settings for more informations.

- How can I be sure that I am getting the most current web page contents?
Webcelerator will always verify the contents of the page and update it when necessary. On the Network tab in Webcelerator Settings, you can specify whether you would like Webcelerator to show the cached page while it verifies it or after it verifies it. If the page has not changed there is no need for an Internet download, and your page is displayed immediately.

- Why does my computer try to auto-dial the network when I have not launched a browser, and how can I get it to stop?
If you normally use a modem to dial-up the internet, but have inadvertantly set Webcelerator to use a local area network (LAN) when you installed, you will see Webcelerator attempt to auto-dial. In LAN mode Webcelerator tries to establish a connection with a LAN as soon as it launches. To fix the problem, open the Network tab in Webcelerator Settings and check "Connect Settings: Modem". In the Optimizer tab, make sure "Modem" is checked also.

- Why is the Optimizer tab missing from my Webcelerator settings?
If you are running Windows NT4 or Windows 2000 you will not have this tab present in Webcelerators settings. The optizer settings can hinder the transfer rate on these operating systems and has been left out as to not effect your transfer rate.

- Why has my browser start page changed?
If your homepages has been changed to http://www.homepageware.com it occurred during the installation when you accepted our site to become your new homepage. To change your homepage back to your preferred site, go into your web browser. If you are using Netscape 3, go to the Options menu, choose "General Preferences" and enter the web page you want as your homepage into the "Browser Starts With" field. In Netscape 4, go to Edit, then Preferences, and you can enter it into the field on the right. In Internet Explorer 3 or 4, go to View (Tools for IE5) and choose "Internet Options". You can enter the homepage here. If you do not remember the address of your old homepage, it did get setup as a bookmark/favorite in your browser, so just go to the page and you can see its address there (or press the "Current Page" button in the browser Homepage settings).

- My homepageware URL is different than my neighbor's. Will it matter which URL is used?
No, there are several homepageware URLs and any will work for all our homepageware products. When one product has set a valid homepageware URL, additional homepageware products will use that same URL.

- What are the System Requirements for Webcelerator?
Webcelerator requires Windows 95, 98, NT4 (Service Pack 4 or higher), ME or 2000, with Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, and we recommend:
- Pentium 75Mhz processor or better
- 32MB of RAM
- 20MB Minimum Hard Drive Space
- 14.4kbps modem or better
If your system does not meet these recommendations, Webcelerator may run perfectly on your computer, as it is designed to run on any Windows computer. However a computer below the minimum recommendations may not run Webcelerator as well. We have not tested on systems that do not meet the minimum recommendations. If you would like to test Webcelerator and provide us feedback on how well it works for you, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, Webcelerator uses a significant amount of memory so we strongly recommend 32MB of RAM though it will work with less. If you are using it with less, you should right-click the Webcelerator icon in the corner of the screen and choose "Exit" when you are not online.

- A note of caution for defragmentation:
Webcelerator continues doing cache maintenance even when the user is not browsing. This activity keeps the disk changing and prevents defragmentation from completing. To successfully defragment your disk, please first exit Webcelerator.
