This version should work with the installed game.

It requires the Birthright CD.

If you save a character, CHARED will create a directory called SCENES
in your SIERRA\BIRTHRT directory and save the character files there.

You need a fairly recent version of the game to run CHARED.  If your
game is more than about a month old, the resources won't load properly.
You might still be able to run the character editor, but you won't be
able to see the character graphic.

If your game is more than two weeks old, there will be a minor glitch:
If you change the character's class or level, the changes won't show up
in the "snapshots" at the beginning of the game when you are selecting
a realm and regent.  The changes WILL show up on the character status
screen.

Also note that you can't change a character in a running game.  You need
to start over to use your edited regent.
