Microsoft Dial Up Networking 1.3 Windows Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Performance and Security Upgrade for Windows 95: Preparing Your System: During the installation process, you will be asked to restart your machine. For this reason, make sure you save your work and exit from all applications (except Internet Explorer) before beginning the installation process. If you installed Windows 95 from a CD, you will need to have the Windows 95 CD ready before you begin the installation process. During the Installation: Setup will ask you to restart the machine twice. After each restart, the installer will rebuild your driver configuration twice: once for Dial-Up-Networking and once to enable virtual private networking. This is normal behavior. Setup may notify you of a version conflict and ask if you want to keep an original newer file. If this happens, click Yes. (Always save the newer file) Uninstalling Dial-up Networking 1.3: Always use the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the setup folder to add or delete Dial-Up Networking from your system. Do not add or remove individual Dial-Up Adapter or Virtual Private Networking Adapter components via the Network Control Panel applet or from the Device Manager tab of the System applet. Important: An uninstall of the Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Update will completely remove Dial-Up Networking from your system, including any features that depend on it. This may also disable any applications dependent on DUN (change to Dial-up Networking). For example, an uninstall of DUN would remove Direct Cable Connection and Virtual Private Networking in addition to the ability to dial out over modems or ISDN devices. If you have installed an ISDN device, removing Dial-Up Networking will logically remove the device and any information that you entered for it. This information will not be restored when you re-install Dial-Up Networking. For this reason, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with current configuration settings and dependencies to ensure a smooth reinstallation of these components. 128 Bit Encryption: If you are located within the US or Canada and require 128-bit encryption, a separate utility is available which will modify an MSDUN 1.3 installation to enable use of 128-bit encryption. This utility can be obtained from the web site below. http://support.microsoft.com/Support/NTServer/128Downloads.asp. Please download the 40 bit upgrade first followed by the 128-bit encryption utility. 6. Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.4 Windows Media Player 6.4 should NOT be installed on computers running Microsoft® Windows® 2000. Computers running Microsoft® Windows® 2000 already come with this or a higher version of Windows Media Player, so the AltaVista Free Access install program would not have checked this program for download. For Windows Media Player questions, free support is available by calling one of the following numbers: Windows NT: (425) 635-7018 Windows98: (425) 635-7222 Windows95: (425) 635-7000. Or http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/support/faq.asp 7. Macromedia Shockwave 7.0.3 To uninstall, go to Start, Setting, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and select Shockwave 7.0.3.
