Note: If you don't have a "BBSICONS.DAT" file in your IconUpDater Directory, you are going to have problems. Just run ICMAINT.EXE from IconUpDater's Directory, and it will be created. ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º IconUpDater º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ SET-UP Step by step Feb 27th, 1994 Realize this is a quick start document. You should read the Sysop.txt!! 1.) Create a directory that will only be used by IconUpDater. ex. c:\wc30\doors\icupd or c:\doors\icupd or c:\icupd 2.) Copy the ICUPD270.ZIP to this new directory. 3.) Unzip ICUPD270.zip in its new directory 4.) Now type INSTALL... 5.) DO NOT RUN ICSETUP yet... if you do not follow this guide you will create head aches for yourself! Now... 6.) ZIP or ARJ (only!) all the icons you are currently using on your BBS and put them in a directory. Usually on your BBS somewhere. *Write down the Path and filename to those icons; you will need it later. 7.) Now create another directory for all the icons you are currently using on your BBS.... ex. c:\ripaint\bbsicons ...and put DO NOT put anything other than just .ICN files in this directory. *Write down the Path to those icons; you will need it later. 8.) Make sure you know what to type in for SysOp name and BBS name when the setup program ask for it. If you are using the KEY that came with it.... (unzip "THEKEY.ZIP"), then you will need to type in "RYAN ANDERSEN" for the sysop name and "Demo Version" for the BBS name. Now... 9.) Run ICSETUP.EXE. This will prompt you for the config information. When you are finished it will write a file called "DNICON.CFG" and a file called ICMAINT.CFG. These files MUST be in the same direct as ICONUPD.EXE!!! Make sure you read all documentation if you have questions on what ICSETUP ask you. If you are runing a DEMO... then put "Demo Version" in for the name of the BBS and "Ryan" for the Sysop's first name and "Andersen" for the sysop last name; or the DEMO key will not work! Do this> Call DUOnline to create your own custom DEMO Key!! **** Make sure you Go thru every Menu and Option in ICSETUP so you do not miss anything! ICSETUP make setting up IconUpDater easier. It will even perform checks to make sure certain file are where you say they are. 10.) .... Create a LOGIN1.BAT file in your Wildcat's main directory. ex. c: cd\wc30\doors\DLICON iconupd cd\wc30 exit * NOTE! * Do not attempt to pass the CONFIG file DNICON.CFG on the command line in the batch file. IconUpDater will NOT accept this. See CONFIG.TXT in ICMANUAL. 11.) Last... MAKE SURE that PKZIP, PKUNZIP, and DSZ or GSZ ( which ever one you are using) is IN YOUR PATH statement. 12.) You can't run this door, IconUpDater from the DOS prompt, unless all the available files are in the respective paths. (e.g. DOOR.SYS is in the path you specified in ICSETUP.exe... etc.). Wildcat BBSes can login locally and run it. You really should call it from another computer to test it out, or have a friend call. And test it with RIPterm 1.53 or greater. QMpro still does not understand all of the RIPscript, but then again, who does? . I have had many poeple say that IconUpDater has been one of the easiest Doors to install. But regardless, let me know if you have any problems. WHY? Because if you run RIP graphics, then you (& your users) will want and need this Door. It has so much to offer for so little. With little or no sysop maintenance! Ripp'n 'cross the country..... -Ryan I don't know why authors bother writting manuals, seems like one reads them!
