Canyon Rim Visitor Center is on Highway US Route 19 near Fayetteville at the north end of the New River Gorge Bridge. Hinton Visitor Center is on State Route 3 By-Pass at Hinton. Grandview Visitor Contact Station is six miles off I-64 on State Route 9. Old Glen Jean Bank Visitor Contact Station is one-half mile off US Route 19 at Glen Jean. WHEN TO VISIT Open year round. Hinton Visitor Center, Grandview Visitor Contact Station, and Old Glen Jean Bank Visitor Contact Station are open seasonally. Peak visitor month is July. Climate: Winter, 28 to 48 degrees F; Summer, 80 to 88 degrees F. POINTS OF INTEREST A rugged, whitewater river, flowing northward through deep canyons, the New is among the oldest rivers on the continent. The free-flowing, 52-mile section from Hinton to Fayetteville is abundant in natural, scenic, historic, and recreational features. Campgrounds are located at Babcock State Park and throughout the National River vicinity. Other points of interest include: recreational attractions at nearby state Parks; outdoor dramas performed during the Summer by Theater West Virginia in Grandview; an exhibition coal mine at Beckley; and the longest single, steel arch bridge in the world in Fayetteville.
