DIRECTIONS
The River is in the northeastern part of the state on the border with South Dakota. Go north from Omaha on I-29, and exit west on SD Route U.S. 50 to Yankton, SD. Go northwest from Sioux Falls on I-29, and exit west on SD Route U.S. 50 to Yankton, SD.

WHEN TO VISIT
Open year round. Summer is hot with temperatures in the 90s; Winters are cold, -14 to 32 degrees F.

POINTS OF INTEREST
One of the last free-flowing stretches of the Missouri, this reach from Gavins Point Dam, near Yankton, South Dakota, to Ponca, Nebraska, still exhibits the river's dynamic character in its islands, bars, chutes, and snags. In all respects, the "Big Muddy" lives up to its name. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, manages the river through a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service.

ACTIVITIES
Limited Federal Facilities. State and local Parks provide facilities and access to the 58-mile river stretch.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Food, supplies, and camping facilities are available in local communities along the river. Overnight accommodations are available in Yankton, South Dakota, and Sioux City, Iowa.
