DIRECTIONS
The Monument is the north central part of the state. The Visitor Center, three miles inside the Monument, is ten miles southwest of White Rock (NM 4), thirteen miles south of Los Alamos (NM 4), and forty-six miles west of Santa Fe. From Santa Fe, go north on US 285 to Pojoaque, then west on NM 502 to NM 4. Eleven miles north of Frijoles Canyon (NM 4) is the Tsankawi section of the Monument.

WHEN TO VISIT
Open year round. Some trails may not be cleared of snow in Winter. Peak visitor month is July. Winter temperatures, 24 to 48 degrees F; Summers, 78 to 88 degrees F.

POINTS OF INTEREST
On the canyon-slashed slopes of the Pajarito Plateau are the ruins of many cliff houses of 13th-century Pueblo Indians.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Hiking trails include a one-mile path from the Visitor Center. Seventy miles of backcountry trails lead into and out of deep, steep-walled canyons in rough and broken country. Dogs must be on a leash. Frijoles Canyon has a snack bar. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in White Rock, Los Alamos, and Santa Fe.
