I-90 is one mile to the west; The Crow Agency is two miles north; Hardin is eighteen miles north; Billings is sixty-five miles northwest; and Sheridan, WY is seventy miles south. WHEN TO VISIT Open year round. Peak visitor month is July. Summers are hot, 80 to 90 degrees F; Winters are cold, 8 to 36 degrees, F; Spring and Fall are mild. POINTS OF INTEREST The famous Battle of the Little Big Horn between twelve companies of the 7th U.S. Cavalry and the Sioux and Northern Cheyenne Indians was fought here on June 25-26, 1876. Lt. Col. George A. Custer and about 268 of his force were killed. Custer Battlefield National cemetery with 4,487 interments, 277 unidentified, is included within the Park. Overnight accommodations are available in Hardin. Stay on pathways while walking through the Battlefield. Beware of rattlesnakes. Pets must be kept on leash.
