In its most general sense, "form" is the organization of musical ideas in time, or, in other words, the design into which the composer molds his musical materials.

On a small scale, it can mean the relationships between different elements of music.  On a large scale, it means the accepted schemes on which a whole composition is based, such as: "Sonata", "Symphony", "Rondo", and "Variations".
