Consult the Union Handbook, some pubs are definitely to be avoided.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos:[EBOLD] [ITAL]It would be unfair to say that all of Middlesbrough's large selection of clubs are tacky, but we haven't yet found one that isn't.  Among the best are The Arena, Madisons, Blaises, State 52 (gay, strippers) and Centrefold, but only really on student nights.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Music venues:[EBOLD] The Town Hall stages everything from popular to classical, country to more country.  [ITAL]The Arena is more Radio 1 (M-People, Paul Oakenfold, Boy George), and the Empire, an old ballroom, recently had Edwin (War!) On the teas side around Teesside, the choice of other eats is suprisingly good: 2 quite scoffworthy value veggies, lots of Italian and Indian restaurants all at quite reasonable prices, and plenty of cheap and cheerful cafes.
