[HDNG]TOWN:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]E3[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Price of a pint of beer: £1.40 [BULL] Glass of wine: £1.30[ESTAT][PARA][ITAL]For a fix of fun or culture, Buckingham is as happening as a strip show in a convent. In fact, for films, students go to MK, for night clubs to Oxford (see [ULNE]University of Oxford[EULNE]) and for a treat to London (see [ULNE]University of London[EULNE]).[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Theatres:[EBOLD] [ITAL]Serious-minded [EITAL]local amateur dramatics.[PARA][BOLD]Pubs:[EBOLD] There are 17 pubs within walking distance of the University, [ITAL]but this is rural Tory Range Rover country and so the log fires and horse brasses-type pubs are expensive and still coming to terms with a student clientele.[EITAL] [PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL]plugs: Mitre; Woolpack; The Whale; New Inn.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Music venues:[EBOLD] Stowe School and the Community Centre host classical concerts and the Seven Stars in Twyford, 6 miles away, has live rock'n'roll. [ITAL] [EITAL]The pubs above have occasional bands... [ITAL]occasionally.[EITAL][HDNG]UNIVERSITY:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]E2[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Price of a pint of beer: £1.15 [BULL] Glass of wine: £1.10[ESTAT][PARA][BOLD]Bars:[EBOLD] The University has 2 bars - popular given the lack of cheap competition.[PARA][BOLD]Theatres:[EBOLD] Rare productions in the Radcliffe Centre (250) or the open air.[PARA][BOLD]Cinemas: [EBOLD]Body of Evidence, Groundhog Day and Reservoir Dogs were recent showings.[PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos:[EBOLD] The Refectory which, uncannily, is used as the refectory during the day, is turned into a makeshift disco once every 3 nights or so during term time (200). Sometimes local halls are booked when student groups get ambitious.[PARA][BOLD]Music venues:[EBOLD] Bands are rare, but when they do appear it's usually in the Radcliffe Centre.[PARA][BOLD]Others:[EBOLD] The SU organises 2 balls a year - [ITAL]very posh.[EITAL][HDNG]EATING OUT:[EHDNG][PARA]The University-run Refectory provides 3 meals a day which is the feeding trough for most students, although in town there's also a chippy, a bakery/coffee shop, a pizza takeaway (and delivery) and a few restaurants which are mostly expensive. [PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL]plugs: Cheng Du (good value Chinese), Cafe Porchini (pricey but that doesn't deter some Buckingham students) and Roosters (takeaway with seriously big portions).[EITAL][PARA][PARA]
