           INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINDOWS 3.1

1. From within Windows select the Control Panel icon (located in the Main 
   Group in the Program Manager window).

2. Select the Printers icon in the Control Panel window.

3. Select "Add >>" - the "List of Printers:" box opens.

4. Select "Install Unlisted or Updated Printer".

5. Select the disk drive where this disk is located and then select 
   the WIN31 subdirectory (example A:\WIN31).

6. Select your printer (COMPAQ PAGEMARQ 15 or COMPAQ PAGEMARQ 20).

7. Select "OK". Files are copied to your computer.

8. Select your printer from the "Installed Printers" list and set as
   the default printer.

9. Select "SETUP". Configure as desired for your installation.

10. Select "OK". This completes the driver installation.

Windows 3.1 NOTES:

LZW COMPRESSION: The COMPAQ PAGEMARQ printer driver uses the LZW data
compression technique to minimize the number of characters sent from
your computer to your printer. Using this technique is not compatible
with the PAGEMARQ printer FAX modem option. If you will be using the
COMPAQ FAX software and FAXing with your PAGEMARQ printer, turn off
LZW compression. The control box for LZW compression is located on the
Printer Setup/Options screen in the COMPAQ PAGEMARQ Driver.

MANUAL FEEDING LETTER OR A4 SIZE PAPER: Letter or A4 sized paper is fed
short-edge first when using manual feed. To manually feed letter or A4
sized paper, select Letter Transverse or A4 Transverse in the printer 
setup dialog box.  To accurately image manually fed sheets use the Control 
Panel on the printer to set the default tray to "Manual", and select the 
proper paper size.

ENVELOPE FEEDING: Envelopes should be fed (using either the Multipurpose 
Feeder or when feeding Manually) with the "Stamp" end of the envelope first, 
"Stamp" side facing up.
