Options: configuration in basic mode

In the basic mode, the different protection strategies (immediate, scheduled, startup, permanent and Internet scans) all have the same window configuration. This window includes the main scan options, which are the following:

Scan

Compressed files:
if this option is checked, all compressed files found will be scanned. These files will only be scanned if this option is checked. Selecting all the extensions is not enough.

Electronic mail files: if this option is checked, the antivirus will scan all e-mail files regardless of the indication in the Extensions section. The antivirus is capable of scanning MS-Exchange/Outlook (PST files) e-mail files. These files will only be scanned if this option is checked. Selecting all the extensions is not enough. Disabled for Computer Startup Scans. Disabled for Computer Startup Scans.

Generate report: if this option is checked, the information concerning the scan in question will be logged in the report.

All files:
by selecting this option, all files will be scanned regardless of their extensions. The exceptions are compressed files, system files, Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook e-mail files, which must be marked separately in order for them to be scanned.

Only program files: if this option is selected, only files with EXE or COM extensions will be scanned.

Only my extensions: this option permits you to indicate that all files with extensions indicated on a list are to be scanned. This list can be accessed by means of the Extensions button. Disabled for Computer Startup Scans.

Action

Show information on the virus:
this causes the antivirus to display a window with information on the virus when it is detected. No other action will be taken.

Ignore and continue scan: the antivirus takes no action when a virus is detected. Scanning will then continue normally.

Disinfect automatically: here, you can indicate the automatic action the antivirus should take if a file is infected: rename, delete or move the file in question.

Rename the infected file: permits you to rename a selected scan.

Delete infected files: by indicating this option, all infected files found will be deleted.

Move the infected file: if this option is indicated, all infected files found will be moved.

Ask what action to take: with this option, the antivirus can be advised to ask what action to take each time a virus is found. The user can indicate different actions during the same scan.

For most of the different scan types, the same set of options are presented for when a virus is found. However, there are scans that may not offer all of them or which even display entirely new ones. For instance, the startup scan configuration only offers two options: Ignore and continue scanning and Disinfect. Likewise, the permanent scan (Sentinel) features an option that generally does not appear in the list of possible actions: Block access to file.

In the lower part of the configuration screens, the following two buttons appear:

Restore: this enables you to select the type of configuration desired: default (configuration settings that the user defined as standard) or manufacturer (initial configuration settings defined by the antivirus program).

Predetermine: this enables the user to indicate that the configuration settings defined in that moment be used as the antivirusÆ default configuration values.
