WAGON TRAINS by Donovan Yingst Fri Nov 08 1991 ------------------------------- I am coordinator for the Idaho COED (CENSUS OF EMIGRANT DOCUMENTS) Committee of The Oregon-California Trail Association. This committee, and in several other states, is surveying emigrant diaries, etc. for historical and genealogical data to go into a central database in Independence, MO. There are 3000+ diaries that we know of and we have only scratched the surface so far. Eventually, the database will be accessible for research, but not now. There are several references that list and summarize emigrant documents and show the repository for each, but they are indexed only by the author. So, from these sources, one usually can't find any specific emigrants. However, I can furnish you the names of the references if you want them. Your best bet for a starting place might be to write to the Oregon State Historical Society to see if they can give you a hand. They have a long list of documents in their library and have been active for years in publishing information contained in them. Their address is 1230 SW Park Avenue, Portland, OR 97025. Be sure to send them as much specific information as you can about your grandparents.
