Under the hood of the Commodore PET

The Commodore PET was the epitome of "Plug-and-Play" in 1977. Simply plugging in and turning on this single, integrated unit booted to Commodore's ROM BASIC.

In this picture, you can see the unique design of the case, with it's automobile style hood prop in the open position. To the left and rear is the massive center-tapped transformer which converted line voltage to a lower AC voltage and fed it into a classic bridge rectifier incorporated into the main motherboard. The replacement diodes and hefty 34,000 uF capacitor were added by the owner to allow the machine to run on 50Hz line current while residing in Germany.
