Trip Report

Piaski - August 1997

Polish climate is not very warm and it is very capricious. As you probably know in July we experienced a catastrophic flood in great part of our country. Also we did not expect good weather in August. I booked a vacation for my family at seaside (Baltic Sea) in April so I was almost sure that we would find cold and rain all the time. To our biggest surprise the weather was great! Each single day of our two weeks+ long vacation was sunny and warm. Just a dream ....

I spent my vacations with family (wife, son 11, daughter 4) in the very small fishing village Piaski (another name: Nowa Karczma). The village is located on the Mierzeja Wi╢lana (Vistula Spit) 12 km east from Krynica Morska (famous Polish seaside-resort). It is the last Polish locality on this spit before Russian frontier. The village is located in a forest on dunes (Piaski means 'sands'). Excellent place for somebody who is looking for peace and is tired with crowd.

Naturist beach (which in fact is rather clothing optional than strictly nude) is located about 2 km on West from Piaski. You can easily find it driving from Krynica: at the border of this town there is a road table: "Pla┐a nudyst≤w (means: nude beach) 10 km". Just count distance and you will find on the left forest paid parking. Leave your car and you will see another table showing direction (F.K.K. - pla┐a nudyst≤w).Towards nude beach After about 10 minutes walk you will see the sea and naked people. The beach is located about 2-3 km from main textile beach in Piaski (the best way is through a forest) - nude beach starts from big dry trunk (there is no other sign). It is wide and sandy and is 300 (ordinary days) to 500-600 m (weekends) long.

The beach was not crowded however you could notice apparently more people during weekends. "Gender ratio" was almost perfectly 1:1! Most of the sunbathers were couples or families. You could hardly find single naked male and occasionally single women. Once I saw a textile male gawker. Different then on other Polish beaches that I knew there was a very small number of textile passers-by. Just ideal place for shy newcomers.

Our summer vacation was a great experience. We returned home fully rested and relaxed.
