Watch Your Doodles Come Alive. Everybody loves to doodle. The Fisher-Price(R) Magna Doodle(TM) CD-ROM is the creative computer drawing board that lets kids and adults watch their doodles come to life. This electronic version of the popular toy features five different Doodle Adventures, each with its own colorful theme. Whatever you choose to doodle, remember there's no right or wrong way to draw and, if you don't like something, you can always erase it and start over. When you've got a Doodle you want to keep, press the Print button to print out what you see on the screen. For even more fun, make your Doodles move and hear their sounds. Even the simplest doodles are great when they get going, so grab your mouse and get ready for oodles and oodles of doodle fun! How To Begin At the main Doodle Adventure screen, you'll see five Doodle Adventure Buttons. Click the Doodle Adventure you want to explore. Doodle Away Each Doodle Adventure includes two Drawing Scenes. The first Drawing Scene automatically appears when you enter the Adventure. To select the second Scene, click the Drawing Scene button on the right side of the Magna Doodle(TM). You can go back and forth between Scenes as often as you like. Sometimes Doodle Designs from the first Drawing Scene will appear in the second Drawing scene in surprising ways. Each Scene has five different Doodle Designs to draw. Click a Doodle Design button. You will see a set of blocks with dash lines. When you doodle inside these blocks, your doodles will be able to move like magic when you press a Speed Button. Inside the blocks are stencil guides that can help you draw a doodle. You do not need to use these stencils. You can draw anything you choose in the Doodle Designs. The stencil lines and the block lines do NOT appear when you make your doodles move. Doodle Tools To doodle a Design click a drawing tool: Pencils Choose the thick or thin pencil to draw lines. Click a pencil. Your mouse cursor will change to a pencil. Click on a color. To draw inside a Doodle Design press and hold down the left mouse button and move the pencil around. You can draw across the doodle block lines. Lines drawn outside of the blocks will not appear when you make your doodles move. Stamper Choose the Stamper to add fun stamp art inside the doodle blocks. Click the Stamper. Your mouse cursor will change to a Stamper. Click the Stamper in each doodle block. There are three stamp designs for each block. Continue to click a block three times to see each stamp design. Match or mix the designs as you choose. You can also add your own drawings over stamps, and pour paint colors into the stamp designs. Paint Bucket Choose the Paint Bucket to pour color in your design. Click the Paint Bucket. Your mouse cursor will change into a Paint Bucket. Move the Paint Bucket over to the color tray and click a color. Click in the doodle blocks to add the color. Pouring paint works best if you have a closed-end drawn area in which to pour the paint. Stencil lines will not hold color. If you click the Paint Bucket inside a block without an enclosed area the entire block will be filled with color. Color Tray There are ten colors to choose from. Click a color with the thin or thick pencil or with the Paint Bucket. The color that has been selected will leave a splash in the tray. Eraser To erase all the doodles in a single Design block choose the Eraser tool. Click the eraser. Your mouse cursor will change to an Eraser. Click the Eraser on any Design block. Clear All Slider Clearing a whole Doodle Design is quick and easy. Just click on the orange Clear All Slider and all the Doodle Design blocks will be cleared. Moving Like Magic After you draw a doodle you are ready to make it move. Click one of the Speed Buttons at the bottom of the screen: Turtle for slow speed playback Kid for medium speed playback Rabbit for fast speed playback You will see only the Doodle Designs you have drawn move. Make all five Doodle Designs and then watch your Doodle Adventure come alive. You can change the speed of the Adventure playback as often as you like. Each of the Doodle Designs makes a special sound. Click on or around the Designs while they are moving to play the sounds. To return to a Doodle Design screen click the mini Magna Doodle(TM) picture. Toy Box - Saving Your Doodles Magna Doodle(TM) automatically saves your last drawing of each Design when you quit the program. If you have to stop doodling, don't worry, you can pick up from where you left off without losing your work. When you quit the program, your doodles are saved in the Toy Box. To see a saved doodle, click on Doodle Design. The Toy Box in the lower left corner will be open and highlighted. Click the Toy Box and your saved doodle appears. The Toy Box holds only one set of doodles, so your old doodles are replaced each time you leave an Adventure. If you do not want to save a doodle, use the Clear All slider to clear the screen before you leave an Adventure. Printing You can print a Doodle Design screen or a Doodle Adventure screen by clicking on the Print button. When you print from a Doodle Design screen, the block outlines and stencils will appear on the printout. You can have fun away from the computer by drawing and coloring Doodle Design printouts. When you print from a moving Adventure screen, you will not see the outlines or stencils. Help Remember the friendly doodle line you met at the beginning of the program? He's just waiting in the upper right hand corner to give you information on how to use Magna Doodle(TM). Anytime you need help, click the question mark doodle in the upper right hand corner of the screen. The Help doodle will attach to your cursor. Click anything on the screen and listen to the information the Help doodle gives. When you have finished using the Help doodle just click on his corner space. Quit You can leave the Magna Doodle(TM) program at any time by clicking on the red Stop Sign in the upper left-hand corner. When you quit, your drawings are automatically saved in the Toy Box. Registration You may register for the product at any time by clicking the Electronic Registration icon in the Fisher-Price(R) Magna Doodle(TM) software folder that was installed in the Start/Programs menu. General Troubleshooting Tips Note: Please review the Read Me file located in the Magna Doodle(TM) CD-ROM menu for the most up-to-date troubleshooting tips. Installation You may encounter problems with the Magna Doodle(TM) installation if there are other applications running during the install of the software. If you do have a problem, exit the installation and shut down any applications that are running. After all other applications have been closed, try to install the software again. Printing Error when printing Make sure that your printer is ON, plugged into your computer and set up properly. Make sure that your printer driver is set to the correct port (such as LPT1 or LPT2), and that you selected the correct printer in the printing section of the software. You can check that the printer is working correctly by quitting the program, opening another software paint program, and printing some simple designs both in black and in color. You may receive an error if the printer does not correctly grab the paper. Gently guide the paper into the printer while the printer is trying to grab the paper. If your printer setup appears to be correct but you are still experiencing problems, check the troubleshooting section in your printer user's manual. Light or Fuzzy Printouts If printouts are lacking in color or detail, make sure your ink cartridges have ink. Cleaning the print head will greatly improve the quality of printouts. Nothing Happens When the Print Button is Clicked Several things could be happening in this situation. 1. When you send the file to print, you may be spooling all the information from the file to the printer before it starts printing. This may take a minute or two, especially if you are printing large files. Be patient and look for signs that your computer is working. 2. Check your printer queue to see if the print job has been spooled and to determine if it is printing. 3. Your printer may not be connected properly. Check all connections as outlined in your printer manual. Graphic Problems 1. Make sure that your display setting is High Color (16-bit) 2. Refer to your system or Windows documentation. 3. Contact your video card or system vendor to obtain the latest version of their video driver. (Updated video drivers may be available via the Internet.)
