Hong Kong Books and Photos

Sorry folks, it's me again...
I have a couple of enquiries:
First, does anybody know of any good, reasonably priced
bookshops in HK. I'm reliably informed that English
language books are expensive and rare. I don't want to take
many with me because of the weight, but they do help to
pass the time on trains/planes etc. Secondhand is fine,
esp. interested in fiction.
Secondly, I obviously want to take loads of photos but have
been told that older people, those in rural areas of SE
Asia and pregnant women may object (not that I intend to
take many photos of pregnant women). I came across this a
little when in Tunisia. I don't want to offend anyone so
has anyone any views or guidance?
Many thanks in advance,
Steve

you might want to try Fleet Arcarde. Its on the HK side,
near the Admiralty MTR station, right by the waterside
across from Pacific Place Mall. This place sells new
books/current magazine at US prices. Its actually a store
for US Navymen and US citizens.. Sometimes they will ask for
your "Fleet Arcade" pass when you pay for stuff, but you can
usually make up an excuse or something...

Only really old people will obect you taking pictures.
Pragnant women should not be that old and take the picture
with smile you won't have any problem.

I have never had any trouble, If the subject knows you are
taking photos ie you are close to them, raise the camera a
little and smile, they will usually nod agreement. If
someone shakes their head then you have to respect that.
Sometimes you will be asked for money, then you have to
decide if you really want the photo enough to pay for it.
I bought a right angle attatchment for a lens many years
ago, it uses a mirror which allows you to take photos of
people with the camera at right angles to them. The first
time I used it someone approached and commented on the
attatchment and that they had always wanted to try one. So
    much for being inconspicuous. http://www.wright-photo.com

You can find a bookstore that sells English Language Books
right at the Star Ferry Terminal Kowloon Side. Also within
2 minute walk from Star Ferry Kowloon side is Harbor City
Malls...Ocean Center has Bookstores. Finally, I believe
there is a smaller mall right on Salisbury Road directly
opposite the Star Ferry where yopu can find a bookstore
inside. Whoever told you that English language books are
rare in HK wasn't correct. In Bangkok, English is hard to
find, but in HK you see it everywhere...

Festival Walk is the newest mall which has a giant
bookstore with plenty of English titles.

Cosmos books in Johnstone Rd Wanchai is a bit more central
than Festival Walk. Reasonable prices don't really exist in
Hong Kong. There are some second hand shops - the one I like
is called Flow, and it's on your left as you go up the
mid-levels escalator (this will make sense when you are
    here)
Photos - don't try it with market traders - they can be
really twitchy, especially if they're not licenced. New
Territories women are likely to charge you for a pic too -
your best bet is a zoom lens.
