Layover in Seoul

Does anybody know if there's a left luggage area in the
Seoul area? I have a 12 hour layover and, travel weariness
aside, intend to set off and explore the city!
-
Does anyone have suggestions on quick ways to get to
central Seoul, and what I'd be able to see in a day? I'd
really appreciate any advice on must-sees for a 12 hour
visit!!

Thanks,
Julie

  1. Seoul Airport Added by: Matt

I was in the same situation, 12 hrs in Seoul....after a long
flight from Singapore. There is a luggage room on the first
floor of the luggage terminal, the cost is like 4,000(wan)
    ($4.00 US) for the day.
The subway leaves from the basement of the Airport and goes
    into the city...
It was poring the day I was there so spent the day eating
Korean Bar-b-que and drinking beer....I could hardly keep my
    eyes open.....
    Have fun....

Left luggage is easy. The subway is best. Jongro 3ga or 5ga
are good for people watching. Insadong is good for traditional
gifts, shopping and teahouses. There's a park in the center of
the city around the old palace (sorry, can't think of the name)
but someone should be able to tell you. The area around
Hong-ik university (famous for its art department) is not bad and
isn't so far from the airport. Seoul tower (take the subway and a
cable car-ask) has a nice view of the city -crowded or empty
depending on whether it's a weekday or weekend.
Bars on Daehangno are decent (I can't remember the name of
the subway station, but it's near Seoul Nat'l Uni Hospital) and if
you want US GI'sand cheap fake junk for sale try Itaewon (they
don't roam too far outside , so don't worry). The Namdaemoon
area has a large openair market frequented by Koreans (I
think not so far from the palace (Maybe Kwang-bok-dong) if
memory serves. I'd suggest the market at Namdaemoon, the
palace and park, then back to Hong-ik dae to hang at a uni
bar and then subway back to the airport. Good luck.

sometimes you can get next-to-no-cost rides on buses
with the u.s. soldiers going to their base in itaewon.
