I'm hoping to go to Bangladesh this summer and would
appreciate any information/recommendations from recent
travels. I'll probably be in Dhaka most of the time, so any
good restaurants, tips, interestings things to do would be
great. I do hope to get out of the city so I'd also like
ideas of some of the more unique places to travel in the
country.

jessica, i went to bangladesh march `98 and had a great
time. everyone i met was very friendly and hospitable. i
wish could give you specific recommendations on places to
stay and where to eat, but i didnt record those things. i
can say i used the lp guide for bangla and it was
usefull. if you can take the boat trip from khulna to dhaka
please do so, its great. i met no other tourist in 2 weeks
of travel around the country. when leaving for thailand i
did meet an english lad who had been in bangla for 1 month.
he agreed that everyone he met was very nice but that he was
a very intense object of curiosity everywhere he went.
please e-mail when you return as i would like to hear about
    your experiences. bon voyage!

jessica, i have some additional info for you. in dhaka i
stayed at the hotel al-faruque int`l, 64/1/A north kamlapur
rd. single rm tk 150. very friendly mgmt. 2-3 min walk from
the train station. from the airport, if you are travelling
light, walk outside to the main road into dhaka and ask
anyone for the premium bus svc busstop, tk 20. it only takes
enough passengers to fill empty seats, no standing. i went
by train to dinajpur in the north and while there visited
the kantanagar hindu temple. again, everyone was extremely
friendly. bangladesh gets very few tourist so you will be
the center of attention everywhere you go.
