Is it possible to hire a boat or joinothers on a boat that
sails around some of the islands of the Phillipines. We are
considering doing this for our honeymoon. Is it expensive?

If you have the money, they have the boat. There is
everything from sailing bancas to motor-bancas to bigger
craft, and they are definitely for hire. The problem is, are
they safe, and does the operator have any sense? I've been
on a ton of good boat trips, but there were a couple of
others where drowning or death by exposure were strong
    possibilities.

A good way to get a good boat is to stay at a well-managed
place, and ask the proprietor for recommendations. Always
look at the boat and meet the crew first, and establish
exactly what it costs, where you're going, who else is
going, and the exclusiveness of your charter. You don't want
to pay somebody to haul a load of cargo and pick up and drop
off random passengers while you pay for the whole boat!
Also, check the safety gear, and make sure somebody knows
when and where to start looking if you don't reach your
    destination.

The best way to have National Geographic moments is in
developing-world small craft. Do it, but carefully.

The Philippines is in a different forum, Caron; NOT is SE
Asia (Mainland), but in the "Islands" section. You'd get a
lot more help and answers there, especially from a nice
girl named Milo (who has helped me a lot on my questions
    about this country).
