Hi All
I am planning on visiting Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and
Bali and am in two minds whether to take Malaria tablets, I
am not planning on going any further north than Bangkok and
will not be off the beaten trail too much, it seems like
too much of a hassle for something that is not that
effective anyway.
What do you think???

You have no need to take Malaria tablets based on where you
    are planning to go.

you should check out the cdc web site. If they recommend
the medication I would take it. If you are only confined
to major cities you will be okay. If you are going
    trekking I would take it.
Malaria medication is effective by the way

if you are sticking to the major cities, it shouldnt be a
problem. www.cdc.gov is the website geoff is referring to.
but from everything i've read over the years, the
effectiveness is still subject to controversy. there are
lots of resistant strains and conflicting information.

Based on where you're going, I'd say don't take meds. I
went to Thialand and Malaysia one year ago, and took Lariam
as a malaria medication. I quit taking it two weeks short
of when I was supposed to, because of Lariam side effects
(tingling extremities, insomnia). If you MUST take
    something....don't take Lariam!
    Have a great time!

No need, follow the above comments. There is no need if you
stay on the normal travellers routes. I have lived in
Malaysia for years, and there is no malarial problem.
