They are OK. Not going to win any international awards but
are considered safe. The good thing is that it's not likely
to be full so if you get the seats in the middle of the
    plane you can STRETCH out!
I flew to Beijing with Air China
    Happy travels

China Airlines is the Taiwanese flag carrier. They are not to be confused with Air China the Chinese flag carrier. I have flown with them twice from Amsterdam and several times in S E Asia. Everything about them is fine ; the food, service etc. I would have no hesitation in recommending them and I don't understand people who criticise them.

This was the only airline with pilots so good that they over
    shoot runways.
THe last incident was in Hong Kong and they blamed it on
passengers betting out of their seats before time.
Id pick another airine if I were you

Whilst they are good value for money, what one of the
posters said about their safety record is total crap. They
have had a spate of accidents in the Asian region & have a
bad safety record - they also happen to be bankrupt.

I did the same stretch as you 2 months ago. They did their
    job, namely getting us their on time, without frills;

However, for once I can agree with Kyaw. Their safety
record is indeed pretty bad. Have a look at www.airsafe.com
for details on that. Also, both our flights were packed, so
    no possibility to stretch unfortunately.

There safety record is not the best, They don't meet the
US governments safety standards. I flew them 3 years ago
from Los Angeles to Bangkok. The food was good and I was
upgraded to Business class, but I didn't think the
    waittresses were very friendly.
i recommend Cathay Pacific or Thai air

I flew with them for 56 hours, great service, food etc.
but their safety record is woeful.
Their biggest problem is cockpit management, or CRM, it
doesn't exist if the guys at the pointy bit are locals.
ie; First Officer won't tell Captain if he thinks said
captain is making a mistake.... losing face, it's called!!!!
Whatever you do, DON'T FLY KAL, KOREAN AIRLINES, your
chances of survival are nil with this mob, most pilots are
ex-military. For more info, sneak in to pprune.org and lurk
on the forums, there are 5000 commercial pilots registered
    on it.
WARNING! If you are not a pilot, do not ask questions, it's
    not for tourists......
    Go figure. :-)
    Enjoy your trip.

How about Air China(CI) then? I'll be flying to Hongkong on
    this carrier

  9. CI is Unsafe Added by: Nups
[Timestamp: Fri 21 May, 21:03 Tasmanian Standard Time]

CI is totally unsafe; I would not fly them. Sure, they're
cheap, but rumor has it that they have a horrible airplane
maintenance program. If you investigate their safety
record, you'll see that they've had problems. In Asia,
avoid China Air, Garuda, and Korean Air. Sure, they're all
quite cheap... but, dah, there's a reason!! It's not worth
it. Pay the extra 50 bucks and fly on a more reputable
    airline.

China airlines were ok I thought, I hadn't heard about any
bad safety record though, or is there some confusion here
between them and Air China????? JIM.

    Wait a minute!
Korean Airlines is unsafe too --? I'm flying Hololulu to
Bangkok on them ... what are my chances?
