Bangkok Departure Tax

This topic was created by Amanda

I'm using Bangkok as sort of a home base, as I embark on
various excursions around SE Asia.
'
What sort of international arrival/departure taxes can I
expect at Bangkok airport?
'
One more question -- arriving around Midnight at Khao San
Rd. - will guesthouses/hostels be open at this time, or
would I be better off finding a place to stay by the
airport?
Many thanks for any help!

The Bangkok airport zaps you 500 baht every time you leave
the international airport. You can get a special
dispensation which allows you 12 hours. There are desks in
the departure lounge where you can get your ticket stamped.
    Have fun. bob

No arrival fee in Bangkok, but yes a departure fee. I don't
think Khao Sarn Road guest houses ever really close. Should
be able to find some open, since they know many flights
arrive in the wee small hours. (If your plane arrives at
midnight, figure the better part of an hour getting through
customs and getting to Khao Sarn.)

    Hi Amanda,
Just go straight to Khao Sarn Road. It's impossible or
unlikely to find any place to stay near the airport on the
    budget hotels.
