INDULGENCE

Sounds really indulgent but me and a friend (who just got a
huge compo payment) will travel in Cambodia and then have a
week in Thailand. She is a single parent who needs a break
and I am a harassed Embassy worker. Anyone know of a semi-
luxurious place in Thailand that we could chill (prefer in
or close to Bangkok). We're thinking spa, massage, teakwood
house, privacy, good food...Cheers for any suggestions.

   Top of the line is the Oriental, on the river. The Sukhothai
   is less expensive and right in town.

   Do Hua Hin first then Bangkok for a couple of days at the
   Oriental.

   BTW,
   Suggest any of the riverfront hotels in Bangkok over any other.
   If the Oriental seems too grand the Menam is nice and a lot
   cheaper.

   has all you mention. Its idyllic - Colonial, superb service, go and enjoy. It has a website, check it out, we spent ten days there last year and loved it. The Chiva Som is much much more expensive, too much when you can get the sofitel for a quarter the price.
