Burma Accommodation

Simple question, is it worth while, or ever necessary to
book accommodation in Burma for the first day ? We arrive
about 10.30 in the morning and were thinking of getting
into town an then sorting out accommodation for a day or
two and also sorting out internal travel arrangements.
Any suggestions ?
.
Thanks
.

Depends upon the type of accommodation you prefer and the
time of year you go to Burma, I would imagine. I landed at
9:00 pm on a Sunday evening in April and had no
reservations and was looking for clean, safe and moderately
priced accommodation. When I hired a taxi driver, I told
him I may need him to drive me around for a little while so
that I could check out a couple of places which were
recommended by L.P. We set a fee and off we went. If you
have a specific hotel in mind, it probably wouldn't hurt to
make a reservation. Otherwise, if you need a place to
stay, I recommend the Bagan Inn. It was very clean, safe
and $20 per night for a single room. When making
arrangements please do try to avoid govt run hotels and
travel agencies. Hire privately whenever possible. Enjoy
    your trip!

all hotels & guesthouses anyway, so if you think there's
such a thing as a private one, you're sadly mistaken punk.

I stayed in the Asian Rose Inn, #9 Natmauk Ave, right near
the Nepali Embassy. They charged $10.00 for all the mod
cons & had a garden setting. I walked in off the street. If
you feel better, their phone is 550942, 584975. Fax 095-01-
549451. The staff is incredibly friendly & helpful. The
place is quiet, except maybe for the neighborhood dog.
    Highly recommended. bob

That Asian Rose Inn is right around the corner from the
Bagan Inn, recommended in #1. If you want a website for the
Bagan Inn, check out http://www.myanmar.com/hotel.html for
it and some other hotels. Both of these hotels are in a
nice quiet neighborhood not too far from Shwedagon. Some
people prefer to stay downtown for more action. But it's
easy to take a taxi from Natmauk to downtown for only 100
    kyat.
