leaving Bangkok airport

I'll be arriving in Bangkok around midnight and I noticed
in the LP guide that the air-con buses into the city
only opertate between 5.45 am and 8 pm. The non air-con
buses would be fine except that you're not allowed to take
any large bags. Is this correct? If I don't want to
cough-up the 200 baht for a taxi ride what are my options?

  1. Airport Bus Added by: Ani
[Timestamp: Tue 25 May, 14:44 Tasmanian Standard Time]

    Hi Rod,
there is a very good "Airport Bus", which departs every 15
minutes or so. I'm quite sure that they run 24h. The bus
    costs 70 Baht. There are 3 routes, called A1, A2, A3, going
to Khao San Rd (Banglampoo), Silom Rd. and somewhere else
    (I don't know).
So, if you're heading for a "backpacker place", take the
    bus to the Banglampoo-Area.
    Good luck!

there is only one thing more ludicrous than messing about
with buses when you arrive at bangkok, and that's messing
about with them when you leave at midnight. and i use buses
and taxis every day in bangkok.
    .
but then it takes all sorts.
    .
the A3 bus goes up sukhumvit from the expressway to soi 63
(Ekkamai) and then goes down petchaburi road back to the
    expressway.

At times like these I say "sod the money get me down town".
After dropping my girlfriend off one night I did manage to
get a local bus all the way to Khao San Road, but sorry I do
not remember which number it was.

  5. take the taxi Added by: geoff md

I wouldn't take the bus at midnight. The taxi will only
cost you about 150 baht. IT is worth the money when
arriving from a long flight. There will be plenty of time
to save money on your trip.

I was going to post the very same question ... maybe we
should just share a cab. When are you arriving?
(It might be easier to Email directly)
Or... I figured the hotel might send a car for me.

[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 10:06 Tasmanian Standard Time]

the angelfire site has the routes for the 70 baht bus
mentioned before. If you're going to Khao San Rd, you'll
need to transfer from the 70 Baht bus or take the 29 or 59
to the Victory Monument and transfer to the 12. Late at
night this is time consuming, so I'd vote for a taxi.

  9. What's up with Bangkok airport? Added by: Brent (asiaorbust@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Wed 26 May, 11:17 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Is Bangkok airport only open between 10pm and 2am? Why is
it that all the flights I get are at this rediculous time??
Is this because I only buy the cheapest airfares? It's like
when you walk into the booking agent and they say Oh here
comes a scummy backpacker lets give him the flight that
arrives at midnight!!!! just a thought!! :-(
