Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur are relatively inexpensive, Nepal
not too bad. Never been to Tibet, but I imagine it's cheap
enough. But Hong Kong is quite costly. That's where most of
your money will be spent. You could work a bit in Bangkok at
one of the small private language schools, teaching for
around 300 baht an hour. Lots of folks make something extra
that way, since the schools aren't very fussy.
As to airline tickets, depends where you're coming from.
I've been traveling for 6 months in Asia, India, Nepal and
Thailand and it cost me 4000 dollar (tickets included)
India appr. 400 dollar living costs per month
Nepal appr 500 dollar (because of trekking)
Thailand appr 500 dollar (the bhat was very low)

Hong Kong is relatively quite expensive. But thanks to the
Asia financial crisis, most of the
accommodation/food/clothing costs are 30-50% off from the
peak of 1997.
For budget and comfortable stay around US$10 per bed, I
highly recommend the HK Youth Hostels; Jockey Club Mt. Davis
is the best because of its close location to downtown and
free shuttle bus from MTR(subway).

For cheap food, McDonald's will cost you around US$2.5 for a
burger, French fries and drink.
Or you can use the following search engine to search
restaurants with expenses per head under HK$50(US$6.5):

There are actually many local restaurants and noodle shops
for budget food.
