TEMPORARY PASSPORT

This topic was created by Brad

I am travelling to Thailand, Loas, and Vietnam during
September and October. My Passport has been lost in the
mail and I was issued a Temporary Passport that is valid for
one year. Does anyone know if there will be any problems
travelling with a Temporary Passport in these countries.
Any stories would be appreciated.

some countries require six months left on a passport before
they will put a visa in it, thailand for example. i have
stood in the singapore embassy listening to exactly this
discussion in front of me, and the visa lady won hands
down. you should really check with the embassies of the
countries you intend to visit. if you get visas in advance
you might obviate the problem. be careful or you could end
up at an immigration desk being turned round for home.

I saw a poor gal being turned back in Bangkok for having a
visa too close to expiration. Don't know how they ever
resolved it. The fellow that was travelling with her wasn't
exactly happy about the situation either. So find out BEFORE
you set off. You've still got plenty of time to do so.

Brad, I would suggest that you "pull an Alison" I was in a
situation in the the far eastr where my travel companion
could't even find her passport at 6:30 am (we were supposed
to be in a taxi en route to the airport by 6:45 am).
When she got through to immigration they detained her for
several hours. She asked if she would be able to retrieve
her luggage and then she made a run for it.
I suggest that you do the same.
Why don't you tell them your passport was lost and then
just apply and get a new one? It's worth the hassle now,
then a huge headache later. I would hate to see your travel
    companion stuck somewhere without you.
