Where will I go?

I am travelling to Darwin from Europe at the end of July. My friend is joining me for the first 3 weeks - her annual holidays. We had intended stopping in Bangkok and making our way down to Singapore and we would both go out seperate ways from there. But everyone has been warning us that the weather will be really shitty at that time of year.
PLEASE, can anyone suggest an alternative route.
How about Sumatera??? Or will the weather be better in the Philippines???
We want a few weeks in the sun, nice beaches, diving, treking etc...
Thanks.

    hi sparky,
shitty weather? i live in singapore, so i might be able to
help you if you can tell me what kind of weather you want
to avoid. generally if you want to go snorkelling/beach-
combing, july's an ok time to go. after sept, the water
visibility tends to go down because the monsoon starts
    around there.
there's not much trekking, snorkelling or beaches in
singapore, so maybe you might want to head up to either
malaysia or thailand (which is where i'm going to in a
week) if you want to do that.
