Manila area vacation

I just learned that I may be leaving on a last minute
courier flight (in less than 48 hours) to Manila. I haven't
had a chance to research the area and could really use some
help.
I would only be there for 7 days and would want to spend as
little time traveling to and from Manila as possible (e.g.,
up to half a day each way).
I want to go to just one place, something that is
out-of-the-way and located on the water (preferably an
island). I'm looking for very inexpensive accomodations,
peace and quiet (very few tourists), and great seafood.
Snorkeling and motorbike or bike rental would be great, if
possible. I'm also hoping I can find a place that will not
be too hot -- or at least one that has a nice sea breeze.
I would like suggestions on a good place to go,
where to stay, directions on how to get there, some idea of
costs, likely weather this week, etc.
Any help greatly appreciated as time is short!
Thanks,
DHG

Head off to Puerto Galera on Mindoro island...I'd recommend
    White Beach for snorkelling/swimming/cheap accomodations.
It's less touristy than Sabang but it has its share of
visitors because it has a better and bigger beach. Catch a
BLTB bus from Pasay City (terminal is along EDSA) to the
Batangas pier (approx 3 hrs) then take a ferry going to
Balatero pier (another 1-1/2 hrs). From Balatero, look for
a jeepney heading off to White Beach (another 10 mins).
Lodging ranges from P250 (US$6.50) upwards; meals go for
P100 (US$2.50) on average. The weather has pretty much
been behaving itself this week, but expect rains in the
    evenings.

boracay. it's under an hour by plane from manila domestic
airport and another two hours maximum by bus and boat - the
total travel time is less than puerto galera. whatever you
do, may is the hottest month in philippines and you will
find it hot before the rains break in june. there should be
a breeze though if only on-shore breezes.

and Boracay and Puerto Galera are the most touristy places in the Phillies!! DHG - once you get to Batangas (3 hrs south of Manila) you can get an overnight ferry (7 hrs) to Romblon in the Romblon province. Here you will be able to experience town life relatively untouched by tourists. On Romblon Island you have palm lined white beaches with crystal clear water and no one on them! The next island (15 minutes by outrigger) has great coral. The whole place is laid back and there are many places you can stay that are very very secluded and off the beaten track. If you go, there is one western restaurant in Romblon, Jak's, and the English owner, David, can help you with any questions. Ramble on to Romblon, its just what you're looking for.
