Just returned from Phillies :
Palawan - still no flights from PP to anywhere but Manila. Negros Navigation only goes to Bacolod, Negros from PP.
WG&A Ferries intends to have ships from Manila to Coron by July 99.
Weather continues to be a bit rainy and roads from PP to & from El Nido still very difficult (we had to sleep in our jeepney at Tay Tay, which I am told is normal, but we got stuck in the mud several times the next day - took 17 hrs.
Bacolog, Negros - the Palm Inn Hotel no longer exists and further down the street - the Halili Inn is where we stayed and was the worst place in Asia I have ever been and now call it "Halili's House of Hell" - filfty and crawling with roaches & a resident huge spider in the filfthy bathroom. Go anywhere else.
Cebu - shipping details are published in the Cebu Freeman.

Romblon: None of the places to eat exist anymore. The only western restaurant is Jak's run by an Englishman named David and family. Great food. None of the hotels in the LP exist either, except for the Marble House, as it is called now. 2 new hotels there now - the Bayview Manion, 550 & 650 for spotless double with a/c & includes breakfast and the Plaza Hotel (or something like that) with rooms about the same price. Marble House has cheaper accommodation and just fans too
.
Suggestions: If you are a fairly large person - my husband is 6'1" and 226 lbs - and you plan to travel on local transport, ie jeepneys and Ceres Buses, if you can spare the pesos (and it ususally is very cheap) and especialy if you are travelling for 8 hrs or more, do yourself a favour and buy 2 SEATS as they cram an enormous amount of people in a tiny area. The seats are built for their build, not ours and can become an endurance test over along period of time!

Great post. I go to the Ph a bit as well and have often
wanted to go to El Nido. Almost made it once, but I got
stuck on some other island. This will be useful!
