Hello there,
Can somebody help me? I am planning to go scuba diving in Sipadan in December. Aside from scuba diving, i am also interested in climbing Kota Kinabalu. My question is, how do you get from Sipadan to Kota Kinabalu? Will I need guides and where can i hire them? What is the best route to the summit of Kota Kinabalu, if there are more than one?
Any other information will be welcome. Cheers.

We climbed Mt Kinabalu in 95 and had to take a guide at the entrance of the national park. As the tour takes two days it's better to a reservation for the mountain hut in advance (we did it in Kota Kinabalu - but I think it's also possible in Sandakan). Be sure to bring good boots, it might be very slippery in case of rain. I'm not sure but I guess they are are doing just one route.
After the climb I wasn't able to walk for two days, so we relaxed at the hot springs nearby (can't remember the name but it's something like Piring or so).
From there we went to Sandakan by bus to see the orang utans. A chartered taxi brought us to Lahat Datu, then a bus to Semporna. We found out that accomodation on Sipadan is extremely expensive, but found a diving guide who took us there on a one day trip. Great experience !
After that we did the whole trip down south to Banjarnmsin in Indonesia including a week on aboat on Mahakam River.
    Unforgettable trip along Kalimantan.
If you need more info just mail me.
