Hi,
We are off to Sabah later on this year. Our
first port of call is Kota Kinabalu. Does anyone
recommend any budget to mid-range places to
stay there?
Many thanks in advance

  1. Jack's BB Added by: Matthias (matthias_reising@hotmail.com)

I was staying at Jack's BB twice last year. And it is
really nice and comfy there!!! Ching (the host) and Laureen
(her daughter) are so kind and help you where ever they
can. The atmosphere is relaxed, the rooms and toilets are
clean. And Jack (the owner) is taking you to the outlying
islands (Pulau Sapi) for free! This is one of the great
    services you enjoy there.
Accom dorm 18 RM, take a cab the first time because the
place is a bit outside the center (close to the big Mosque).
Whe you are there regular minibas-connections are available
    in front of the house.

    Enjoy SABAH it's great!

  2. KK and Sabah Added by: greg (pritchar@netspace.net.au)

    Greetings Matthias,
My wife and I and our two kids are just back from Sabah and
a few other places around SEAsia. We really enjoyed Kota
Kinabalu and Sabah in general. In KK, we stayed at Farida's
B&B which cost us MYR 45 for 4 per night including a good
breakfast. It is a way out of town but nothing too hard to
reach by the local buses. We generally took a bus into the
city and caught a taxi back at about MYR 10 for the return
trip and about MYR 2 for the trip into town. The people at
Farida's - especially Sophia and her mother, Farida are
delightful and were a great help to us in organising other
part of our travels in Sabah. They saved us a lot of money
with some very good practical suggestions. We recommend
    their B&B very highly.
On the other side of Sabah, don't miss the Orang-Utans at
Sepilok, this was one of the most special things we saw on
out entire trip. Your ticket into the Centre allows you to
return for the afternoon feeding as well as seeing the
morning session. That was great as we saw different animals
    each time.
    Happy Travels, Greg

  4. Travellers Lodge Added by: Sabahan

According to a foreign friend of mine, Jack's B&B is not
clean. Second time he came, he stayed at the Traveller's
Lodge and for the same price, it was cleaner and more
convenient, being in the centre of town, close to the post
    office.
I don't promote the Lodge - only the facts. Enjoy KK!

    Hi Neil
I stayed at Jack B&B and also stayed at Trekkers Lodge.
Trekkers Lodge is definately the cleaner one of the two.
Its also more central and has internet stations!
    Highly recommended.

See...what'd I tell ya? Yups, sorry I got the name
    wrong...it's Trekker's Lodge and not Traveller's Lodge.
But it's cleaner huh guys and very central and yes, my
friend did mention about it having an internet connection.
It;s in the Sinsuran area....right in front of the Sabah
