Hi, the rape story in Rurre shocked me. I knew this had
happened before, and now again!!!
on the bottom of each page is a email adress to LP. I will
send them a message to say they should warn people in the
guidebook and put a warning on the site against this guy. If
you all do so as well, I'm sure they'll listen.

    Hi people of LP:
The stories of a guy called Negro raping women in bolvia
shock me. I think you should definitely warn people against
him, in your books and on the site.
Can you please let me know what action you are planning to
    take?

I noted a letter in the Postcards section of this site
    (http://www.lonelyplanet.com.au/letters/sam/bol_pc.htm)
that seems to mention this guy last year/at the start of
    this year as follows:
"A number of female travellers have been drugged and raped
on jungle and pampas trips. Travellers should be alerted to
this fact. One woman posted on the South American Explorers
page about her expereince last Oct. I happened to find out
that the same rapist guy is back working in Rurrenabaque
for another adventure tour company under a different name.
Other guides are trying to organize to get him kicked off
the tours as he is hurting tourists and giving all guides a
bad name, but for the time being he is still out there.
    Alicia Schnell, BOL, (Jan 99)"
I've made some comments to Lonely Planet on their "Talk to
    Us" page (http://www.lonelyplanet.com.au/feedback/chat.htm)
If you want to highlight this further to LP I think that is
    the page to do it.

  4. Warning Added by: jen from LP (info@lonelyplanet.com)
[Timestamp: Sat 22 May, 3:57 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Thank you all for bringing this situation to Lonely Planet's attention. LP has
received a number of reports about this incident in the last few days - we take
this situation very seriously and are acting on it.
As an interim step towards alerting travellers of the dangers of rogue guides
we will post the following warning in various locations on the site.
    Warning
Lonely Planet has received several credible reports of very serious
incidents involving the drugging and rape of women tourists who've
taken guided jungle and pampas tours with independent guides around
Rurrenabaque. Contrary to what it says on pages 432 to 433 of Lonely
Planet's Bolivia guide, women tourists should not in any circumstances
take tours on their own or in pairs with independent guides, but
should stick to larger group tours run by reputable agencies. Avoid
rogue guides or those who have broken away from established agencies,
including any who may be recommended in this book.
