I am off to Bolivia next week, can anyone tell me how cold
it will really be at this time of year, will I need
thermals and wool or will a fleecey sweater do? does the
temperature vary much from say the Lake to la Paz to Rurre??
All help appreciated. thanks

Its cold at nite. A down jacket or equivalent is a good idea.
Rurre will be hot and muggy or rainy, hot and muggy. You can
buy great alpaca sweaters in Bolivia at incredibly low
prices. During the day in the altiplano layering is the way
to go. From 10am to 4pm is shirt sleeve weather.

if you're travelling by bus at night (depite the "heated
bus" propaganda) make sure to have your sleepingbag handy
... or you might wake up at 3:00 AM in your seat feeling
    the Altiplano weather.

Although it can be downright sweltering in the day in La
Paz right now, I have never been so cold in my life as in
the nights. So as much fleece, long underwear, etc as you
have would be good. You can ask for portable heaters in the
hotels and they work pretty well.
