Here`s another boring ticket question, but I am trying to
figure out if I can stop on Easter Island on my way to/from
S.A. to/from Asia (probably N.Z.) Does anybody know if any
airlines have stopovers? If not, what is the best way to
get to Easter Island and how much is it? Also wondering if
anyone has any info. on motorbiking in S.A. (buying bikes,
road conditions, maps, etc.) Very grateful for any info,
happy travels everyone. Thanx.

I know you can fly from Sydney to Easter Island via Papeete
on LanChile. But I heard its quite expansive. Go to
www.lanchile.com and surf around. Actually I am thinking of
going that route on the way to Santiago, but first I have
to fly from Singapore to Sydney first. Let me know
(tanckg@mbox3.singnet.com.sg)if you get the tickets, I sure
would like to know the price of the ticket
I'm leaving on the 28th May for Sth America - via Easter Island on a Qantas/Lan Chile codeshare flight. It's Qantas from Auckland(New Zealand) to Tahiti and then Lan Chile to Santiago via Easter Island. There's also a free accomodation deal on at the moment with Lan Chile to get you to stay on Easter Island for a few days. I am paying about $2800 NZ (double it to get US$) for the return trip to Sth America, but I am flying in to Quito and out of La Paz, so no doubt its cheaper to get off the plane in Santiago.
You can also fly Auckland to Buenos Aires via Easter Island I think. So contact Qantas or Lan Chile.
Happy travels, Bec

iorana !!!
just make sure (once you get there) to call the
island/people by its native name: RAPA NUI ... you see, it
was called Easter Island when the Europeans "discovered"
Rapa Nui (it was easter day) ... obviously the Rapa Nui
people like to have their language and culture respected.
The island is very beautiful so you'll have a great (and
relaxed) time .. check out at the pier in HangaRoa if it's
possible to scuba dive (there's a PADI centre run by 2
french bros.) .. also some nfo at www.rapanui.cl

Lan Chile flights from Australia and New Zealand include a
free stopover in Rapanui (Easter Island) a ticket from
Suydney costs about $Aud1800-1900 - I think that's around
$US1300. Try www.travel.com.au (an australian site) to see
this fare. I plan to take this flight and hope to visit
Rapanui in Nov. Have fun
