Immunisations

Greetings.
I expect to be heading down to Lima then the Cusco area
in the next two weeks, kind of short notice, and I've been
getting conflicting info about which
immunisations/vaccinations - Typhoid,Yellow Fever, Malaria,
etc - are strictly necessary.
At this point I don't think I'll be getting to the jungle
and I don't believe in allowing hypodermics or critter-
bearing meds into my bod unless crucial.
A travel agent told me this am that NO shots were needed.
I find this hard to believe. Also, what is this about a
vaccination card. Is it needed for entry into Peru, is it
simply to prove I'm up to date on vacs and not a plague-
bearing gringa?
Any info on the above would be gratefully received.
Ta !

no vaccinations are needed if you are only visiting
lima/cusco areas. yellow fever vac. card is needed for
entry into brazil, but thats all. and, if you do end up
staying longer/going elsewhere, you can buy malaria pills
from various travelers all over. don't worry...

I'm going to Peru and will need a card proving that I've been vaccinated against Yellow Fever in order to get back into Australia. The vaccination centre here advises for Typhoid and Hep A vaccinations as well. They say you don't need malaria vaccinations unless you're going into the jungle. There are mosquitos at Machu Pichu. Perhaps you should check with your local doctor just in case...

Malaria prevention is done by pills and unless you are going
into the jungle you are safe. Machu Pichu is safe. Tetanus
should always be up to date. Good for 10 yrs. now. Typhoid is
not really a problem. Hep A is another matter. For some
people(me) Hep A only caused flu like symptoms. For my
friend(who is twice as strong and healthy) it put him in
hospital for 6 weeks. I take my vaccination card but wasn't
asked for it in Brazil. Entering Peru is no problem.

Much obliged for the above input. Seems I may also
put in an appearance in Ecuador. Any idea if I need to
produce a vaccination card there or require mo' bettah
    innoculations ?

Same holds true for Ecuador. Malaria pills are needed for the
more humid tropical coastal areas..again use them if you go
to the jungle. Most important thing about taking them is to
be sure and follow the course of treatment as prescribed when
you leave the area. Involves taking them for a few weeks
after the trip. They don't stop you getting the critters but
they break the complex life cycle.
