Places to stay in Kunming & Xi'an

I'm going to China in about a month and will be travelling
to Kunming and Xi'an and some other places. Any suggestions
on hotels ? Doesn't have to be budget-budget, should have
AC, though. Any hotels I SHOULD'NT stay at ?

   I can strongly recommend (as the LP-guide do as well) the
   Camelia hotel in Kunming. They have standard doubles for 140
   yuan or better rooms for a little more. They also have a
   very nice foaje and a "inner-garden" with a pub.
