I am flying JAL to Istanbul at the end of May. I arrive in
Osaka at about 10pm and fly on to Istanbul at around 1pm the
next day. Overnight accomodation at Osaka airport is part
of the deal. Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can
do in Osaka in the time I have, that won't break the budget
for the rest of the trip?
thanks :-)

Hi Glen,
from experience on this one, given the time you have, the
budget you're on and the long flight the next day, my advise
would be to drink that $30 beer, watch some cable TV, relax
& call you wife/friend/significant. Above all don't miss
your flight the next day!
I hope this helps
If you get up early, check out the Osaka Aquarium by the
harbour. It is one of the best I have seen. Check the LP
Japan guide for hours and directions (not sure if it opens
in time for you). Cost is about Y1800.
First thing you need to do is look at the travel info/times to the city from KIX at
http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/index-e.html
Then get ready to party-- Osaka rocks at night. Dotonbori looks great, also Nihonbashi
is great for electronics...Osaka Castle looks nice too.
Enjoy--and remember to pay the departure tax.....
Trains to KIX finish earlier(both Nankai and JR). So if you
go out KIX at night after your flight arrive, you are more
likely not to be able to come back until next morning.
Kaiyuukan(the aquarium) opens at 10. I don't think you have
enough time to enjoy if your flight leave KIX at 1300.
Going to Tennoji area(shitennoji temple) or Kyobashi area
(Osaka Castle park) in the morning should be OK.
i'd vote for the aquarium also. it's a little expensive,
but easy to get to and one of the best. arrive early
before all the school kids come trooping in.
Assuming you can catch a train out of Kansai, head into
Namba Stn. (can't remember the line, but I'm fairly certain
it's a central terminus). The whole area should be just
waking up when you arrive. Cheap (for Japan, anyway) Indian
food, Sailor Moon clones and the best animatronics this side
of the Pirates of the Carribean ride await you! Of course,
if you'd actually like to sleep before your flight, ignore
all that and get trashed in the airport bar.
