Vietnam-China crossing

Hi,
I'm planning to cross into China near Sapa (Vietnam) at Lao
Cai. At the Hanoi-airport they gave me a visa with exit-
point Saigon although I asked for the Dong Dang exit-point.
I didn't check it at the time as the papers I filled in
where clear and anyway, they do a good job : they don't
write "Hanoi" or "Saigon" as exit or entry-ports on your
visa but "Noi Bai" and "Tan Son Nhat" which appear to be
the airport-names of Hanoi and Saigon.
I'm now looking for a change of the exit-point in my visa
in Hanoi. Travellers-cafes tell me it is gonna cost me 23
US$...at that rate I might take the chance to get hasseled
at the border and pay them a 20US$ fine or not ???? Can
anybody help me on this one ????
Thanks a lot.

    Be careful!!
Lao Cai is the border crossing close to Sapa-Hekou.
Dong Dang is the train border crossing close to Lang
    Son-Nanning.
If you pass the border at Lao Cai you should have the exit
point Lao Cai in your passport.

Vietnam officials can be very very picky. And i've heard of
a people getting turned back at the china border even if
    their papers are in order.
